I'd bet one of these will hoof it around a road course. Can't wait to see the videos of Cass Whitehead tearing it up around Barber!

I read something somewhere about a 4 cylinder modern 914 "entry" car. That sounds interesting, but I expect that the powers that be at VAG may have two problems with that:
1) There should never be such thing as an "economy Porsche"
2) It could step on the existing VW product too much (GTI, etc.).

This whole VW, Audi, Porsche (Seat, Skoda) brand string not to mention Bugatti, Bentley, Lambo is deja vu all over again. Speaking of General Motors Pontiac, Buick, Oldsmobile, Chevy, Cadillac, ,,,

I think the newest Audi A6 is a member of the MLP platform. Noth'in wrong with that. Just bring a MY13 Audi S6 wagon to the USA. (yeah, I'd be one of the half dozen actual S6 buyers 8$,$$$.)

Say what? The VW Touareg, Audi Q7, and Porsche Cayenne share platforms. Not sure why you are throwing the Q5 into that mix. Thats a different rig.

Just what we need ... another SUV from Porsche
The gangsta tire and wheel size is out of proportion ...

Name for new Porsche SUV is Macan

Stuttgart. Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG, Stuttgart’s new sports car in the SUV segment has been given the name Macan. The name Macan is derived from the Indonesian word for tiger and combines suppleness, power, fascination and dynamics – core characteristics of the new off-road car.

“The Macan combines all sports car characteristics with the benefits of a SUV and is a genuine Porsche”, said Bernhard Maier, Member of the Executive Board Sales and Marketing of Porsche AG. “The name of a new Porsche has to fit with the brand, sound good in very many languages and dialects and evoke positive associations.”

As the fifth Porsche model line, the Macan is a central plank of Strategy 2018, by which the sports car manufacturer wishes to expand its model portfolio. Porsche intends the Macan to emulate the success of the Cayenne. The SUV will start coming off the production lines in Leipzig in 2013. To that end, the site in this city in Saxony is being expanded into a fully-fledged production plant including body assembly line and paint shop – with 500 million euro of investment one of the biggest building projects in Porsche’s corporate history. In the medium-term, the sports car manufacturer will be creating more than 1,000 new jobs here.

Word names at Porsche have a concrete connection with the corresponding model and its characteristics: the name Boxster describes the combination of boxer engine and roadster, Cayenne stands for sharpness, the Cayman is snappy and agile and a Panamera is more than a Gran Turismo, capable also of winning the Carrera Panamericana long-distance race.

The original cayenne was based on the same platform as the Q7 but the latest model is a stretched Q5 platform.

All Cayennes, VW Touaregs and Audi Q7 SUVs are based on Volkswagen Group's PL71 platform . . .

I'm waiting for Porsche to produce a pickup truck and a minivan. Then I'll jump.

meh
the article should read:
"The name "Macan" is actually derived from bacon, which is a smaller slice from a pig."
not a big fan of crossovers in general so this is way off my radar.
