The immobilizer code wasn't available when I bought my 993. I'd like to know it just in case something happens to my fob. But neither of the two dealers in San Diego would look it up for me. Any suggestions?

The local Porsche dealer looked it up for me while I waited. No charge.

Dear Rennlisters,
Wow thanks for all the suggestions. Great stuff, attached is an updated form, version 6 with editorial improvements!
Attached is an easy to follow step by step chart to deactivate the ignition
immobilizer and add remote key fobs to your 1995 on 993.(up to 4 fobs total)
It makes the process easier to follow when you are in the car actually going
through the process. I recently update the form by adding the some setup steps to the begining of the form.

How to save the form to your machine:
-Save the below form to your local machine by right clicking on image
and select save option and
- Open the file you saved and print it off
-fill in your cars immobilizer code digits on steps 3 through 6 and
-keep the form in a safe place for an emergency.

As always use my posting information at your own risk!

Thanks!

I thought if you leave the key in the ignition, you can shortcut the 3 minute wait to 90 seconds?

Does "flash" mean blink or just on? That is where I think there is often confusion.

Cheers,

Mike

So my door lights double flash, pretty sure it is because of the radio swap I recently did. Will this procedure not work at all until I rectify that?

I sounds like you have current alarms pending on the system, likely because the alarm module thinks the radio has been stolen - not sure if that will impact the ability to program remotes. Only one way to find out.....

Do you have to fix the issue (ie fit the appropriate wire to the radio frame) or can you 'clear' the codes?

I didn't see a response to this, so:

No the radio code is different than the immobilizer code. The dealer can look up the immobilizer code. I just took my registration to the dealer parts department and they gave me a print out with it on it. took about 5 minutes.

I do not remember the fix, so do a Rennlist search - i am sure it somewhere on the list. I think you have to ground a wire, but not sure.

Once its fixed, the alarm will clear but remain in memory. You need a PST-2 or the equivalent to clear it totally, but it does not matter, it does not impact operation.

Cheers,

Mike

I've been operating with one remote for the last 3 years and now have finally added a second. Took about 15 minutes from start to finish not counting the many times I read through the procedure.

On the first try I got to the "learning" part with no problem but held the ignition switch in the "on" position too long while entering a digit of the code. The entry of each digit should be quick enough so the light stays off. Once a digit is fully entered, wait for the light to turn on and procede to the next digit. This is what I did on the second try and all was good.

Thanks again Andy and all that have helped make this prodedure more manageable.

This is a great discussion and information re the 993. My question: is the procedure the same for different models?

Reason: I just bought a Cayenne S and need to purchase a second key. My plan is to purchase one online, get my local Ace Hdwr to cut it if needed, then I would program it using the procedures outlined herein. I didn't find this discussion on the Cayenne Forum, hence my posting here.

Thanks in advance,
=rds

No. Here is a thread on key programming for a Cayenne:
