Default Audi r8? Thoughts?

Anyone have one?

I'm keeping my 993, but pondering adding a r8 to the mix.

I'm only looking at the manual and preowned.

Thanks

Test drove the R8 and I think is weak, I like the 10 much better.

Have you driven one yet? That might help you make up your mind. Apparently, the 10 cylinder is the supercar of the breed. I think they are very pretty cars, but have not driven one. One of the rennlisters switched a while ago (TheBuch I think ), if you PM him, he has had his R8 for at least a year now - and had a 993 C4S, so he should be able to comment.

If you search, you likely can find his posts.

Cheers,

Mike

Just saw my first R8 last week.
Stopped in to see the new Beetle at the dealer....guy had just traded his R8/10cyl on some other Audi....and a pocket full of cash.

I dunno.....didn't do that much for me....a guy could get a 993 Turbo S for that kinda coin.

I like the R8 V8 engine, and I'd rather have that same engine but in the RS4 rather than the R8, for a bunch of reasons. Call me crazy.

My friend just traded his V8 R8 on a Ferrari 458. I drove it for a couple of months while trying to sell it. It's an awesome car to drive. The AWD will keep the power in control. On the other hand, it is tiny inside even compared to the 993. The depreciation seems higher than other cars in the same category.

Looks like used V8s are hovering around 100K depending on miles/condition/etc.

For that kind of bank, I'd be investigating some lightly used 997.1 GT3RS's...

I couldn't sell the silver R8 I had for less than that. 15K miles, all options with full factory warranty and maintenance until 2014. There are a few in the 80s.

Thoughts? I have very impure thoughts about that car. If I had a choice between an R8 and any newer Porsche I'd buy the R8. I've driven a friend's V10 Spyder. It is unreal. It's a lot less complicated than it looks, drives beautifully and makes a sound that is divine. Or should I say hellish. Everything about that car is put together in a way that makes you smile. While a Porsche is held back by its evolutionary development, the R8 was created as a clean slate every day super car from scratch. The exterior is beautiful, the interior is unlike anything else, especially with the carbon fiber package, the car is just incredible.
