Talking about the standard 911 Carrera, I was never too fond of the 996, 997 progress was made, 997.2 think we have something, 991 Okay, this is the car I could see myself in.

I just wish these cars didn't have to get so damn huge looking over the 993... and that was a wide body C4S.

The 991 is a pretty car, but it has lost that instantly recognizable shape that defines Porsche for me.
It could go "....wow, nice car, wonder what it is....oh....".
Has a nice grand touring look, but I prefer the sportier look of our 993's.

Might be better in real life than in the pix?

Like I said over there, the 991 looks like the 993 in the second stage of turning into "The Hulk". Good looking, but sure is getting big.

Wow didnt realize it was that large until you posted the photo beside a C4S. But I still think the 991 is going to be a nice model. Cant wait to see the GT3 versions.

Nice to see this type of comparo rather than Porsche's profile overlays of all the genrations.
Thanks for posting! The 991 is HUGE, but it sure has grown on me! The more I see it, the more I want it.

We had our PCA annual banquet last Sat. The local dealer (great group there, support the club big time now) had (2) 991 S' at the banquet. After the banquet they fired them up outside and let the members sit inside, rev them up and do everything but drive away in them.

They look nice except from the rear. Maybe the rears will grow on me but not right now. It's just too tall for me. We'll see though.

I saw the 991 sitting next to the Panamera at the Frankfurt Auto Show and Porsche is moving the Carrera towards the Panamera in terms of windshield rake, rear bumper, front headlights and now the interior. Have a look at both from 50 ft and you will see some similarities.

The emblems drive me nuts. Easy enough to fix, but a car like this shouldn't look like it drove down AutoZone's Tacky Aisle with the crap-magnet turned on...

Yeah, I went to an unveiling party last night to see the 991 (mostly to get free food/beer from Porsche - getting back some of my overpriced parts money).

Anyways, sat in the 991 - Nice car, very pretty to look at, but its a GT car, not a sports car. It has all the fancy doodads for sure. I really liked the engine compartment - two PC fans and some trim - where the hell is the fun in that.

Anyways, as soon as I got home, I went to the garage and sat in my 97 993 Turbo - the car feels compact and VERY functional - simple gauges in front of you, you can SEE the hoodline, the windshield is like wearing glasses - and I thought this is THE car for me.

I am sure the 991 will be a good seller, and I am happy that Porsche can continue to grow and prosper, but I cannot see myself moving from the 993 for quite a while.

Funny, when I was in the car, a guy sat next to me in the passenger seat. I asked him what he drove, he said a 997S, but liked this 991. He asked me what I drove, I said an 97 993 Twin Turbo - his eyes lit up, and said that was the best 911 that Porsche has ever made, and congratulations. Then is friend looking in from the passenger door said the same thing....I found that pretty funny!!

Cheers,

Mike
