Make sure your tires are properly inflated. And if you can find ethanol free gas, you'll see a bump in MPG's.

Sorry, Mizuno, not much in California:

I can get low 20's (22-24) in the Turbo on the highway and high 20's (26-28) with the Boxster. I use 6th gear all the time when highway cruising.

It has so many variables!!!
1. Get a full tune up, & use all synthetic fluids.
2. Use stock 17in rubber, & get low rolling resistance rubber ( I lost 3-4mpg going from PS2 17's to Yoko AD08's in 18)
3. Over inflate your tires a little, this also helps wear the middle a little more. For long HY trips I go 38f/45r
4. Use 6th gear as much as you can, & go light on the throttle, it's hard, but works.

I got my best MPG right after a tune up, & with 17 Sumi STZIII rubber, I could do 28MPG. On my trip to Rennsport, I got around 22-25mpg.

interesting.

stranger things have happened.

Just another data point - I routinely drive from north central KY to Atlanta GA - all highway cruising. Over 400 mile trip one way. I average 26+mpg without even trying hard, and I run the AC. I leave it in 6th gear, except for when the rednecks in 4 door Chevy Lumina's wanna race. Then, of course, my mileage will be somewhat lower.

In town I routinely average 22 mpg, and on the race track it is something like 7 mpg.

I didn't buy this car (1995 C2 Coupe) for fuel economy, but have been pretty darned happy with how well it actually does. Hell my wife's MINI Cooper S only gets about 30 - 31 mpg on the highway.

I didn't purchase my PORSCHE for the gas mileage. When I drive it.......it's usually 100% Spirited Driving. When I'm on the Freeway I'm mostly in 5th gear.

I have a 95 and averaged 25 mpg (all highway) after my purchase in TX and driving back to WI. This was using 6th gear, cruise control and off/on AC.

However a lot of us have them for commuter duty. Just running around up and down the freeway, every bit helps.

Ultimately, what I've found across both RWD and AWD, narrowbody and widebody, 964 and 993--no turbos though--is that the 4S is the piggy at 20-21 mpg, and the 100% stock down to the 16" wheels '92 Targa got me about 27, tops. Maybe 8-9 models total, both mine and customers/friends I've been able to drive enough to have to fill up. This is 90+% freeway driving, pretty level, and not being an outlier relative to normal traffic flow.

Doesn't make me nostalgic for the 17-18 mpg of a 2.4S.............

Any reason you placed porsche in all caps? Were you concerned that we might think you were talking about a bmw?

100% spirited driving...at 70mph down the highway? You just want to make noise and waste gas or.......?

I check the mileage on my cars as a matter of routine, and had my Subaru scoped after it fell off by 3 mpg. The oxygen sensor was at fault, and the mileage returned to normal after it was replaced.

IIRC, my 993 gets 24 mpg (U.S.) at 81 mph in 6th.

Mileage per gallon varies a lot depending on the weather conditions and regional geography. My occasional drives up to Canada and back are affected by whether or not there's a head or tail wind as well as the many ups and downs in the geography through the mountains. Depending on the time of arrival at the border crossing will also affect mileage as the wait can result in idling in line for a few minutes. I've calculated 18 to 24mpg, with average speed of *%.

Yeah Pretty much..... It's hard to keep it at 70mph down the freeway. Especially when folks including Prius are going 75-80mph

on a related note, anybody that has OBC noticed that the avg mpg displayed is quite inaccurate? e.g. my display mostly shows 15mpg no matter how far i drive while my own calculation shows 18.x mpg...

No reason typing PORSCHE in all Caps. When I see PORSCHE on the Dealship sign or on Crest it's all in CAPS so that's how I spell PORSCHE.

Are you offended, because I typed PORSCHE in all caps?

Thx folks.

I'm less trying to save on mpg right now than figuring out how some of you get such high mileage and if I need to have my engine checked.

my mechanic -rmg in Sunnyvale- sees nothing wrong and usually observes mpg in my range for a 993.

I'll try for one has cycle to fall back more on my 6th gear and see where I end up.

Thx folks!

Me, too. To me, it's like monitoring oil consumption or tire wear. A sudden, un-accounted-for change in MPG might indicate an underlying problem that needs to be addressed.
