Default Parrott Asteroid

Anyone tried it yet in the field? I saw it at CES last year and am intrigued.

There seems to be some mixed reviews of Parrot's around - if you search this forum, some members have had issues with them.

But that being said, this unit for $349 looks pretty sweet.

Cheers,

Mike

It looks like my local radio stores carry this, I'm going to go play with one & see how well it works. I did see that is doesn't have "turn by turn" nav, & most functions require it to be paired to a smart phone.

seems like a major oversight not to have turn by turn doesn't it?

Had it in my car for one week and took it out. Got now a Becker Cascade. Why i took it out and returned to shop:
- It takes long time to start up.
- Screen in daylight can not be seen, even with an anti glare sticker.
- volume **** gives a very slow responce, to crank the volume up you have to turn it for ages.
- From time to time it stopped working and needed to be reset, loosing all your settings.

I was one of the first ones to have the predecessor RKI8400 installed. Besides the bad fit into the dash opening, the radio reception is way under par, the Parrot service sucks and since my radio is now 3 years old and it had a minor hick up during a software upgrade, it's not being supported anymore. My Parrot service person told me that it has been discontinued and if I have problems with it, I should consider buying a new one.
I'll never buy Parrot again.
Did I mention it doesn't even have a reset button. Once the internal programming get's screwed up, it's the death sentence of the whole unit. It can't be fixed.
I doubt the Asteroid is any better.

Do you need turn by turn Nav units anymore? My phone has it. I think most smart phones do. My Kenwood has Bluetooth and my phone announces over the stereo even when I'm streaming music. Just like a built in factory unit.
