Bought my car from the original owner with 8k miles on it, bone stock. I started slowly down the slope and have engaged at a good velocity. It all started with Motons (great value) and there's no telling where it'll end up. I can say the car is at the point now that if I sold it'd be harder to sell (niche market) and I'd get pennies on the dollar for all the mods. But while I own it every one is a great value to me because of the smile I get looking at and driving the car. No regrets

Most if not all were toward autocross / track car
Motons (great value)
Walrod bushings (great value)
Steel synchros / billet shift forks (good for me for autocross)
Stripped interior (a bit over the top... but after all I was in FP class anyway)
AC removal (a bit over the top, might put that back in some day)
Stereo removal (great mod, no need to cover up the sound of the 3.6)
Evo uprights (done at the same time as Motons so don't know difference between lowered and lowered with EVO uprights, but the car handles like a dream)
Heater blower delete (cleans up the engine bay nicely)
RS motor mounts (great value)
2WD conversion (I like the characteristics better but spun my car more at first)
DAS roll bar, soon to be full cage (it's good to be safe)
Recaro SPG (nice and snug)
Schroth 6 points (snug and safe)
Supercups (may go with FD + cats one day)

Dan, I think your interior removal was a great mode (seeing how your door panels will be in my car soon)

Ha! True enough, they'll be a great addition for your car. I do still get a jab now and again from my wife about the slope (but I bet I'm not alone there), however she humors me.

Litronics headlights. Improves night vision. Good addition.

Think there's enough Internet Brands server space to list all that Kim had Steve do to "convert" the yellow car????

The 4S is pretty much just a PSS9 kit and some 996 Turbo hollow spokes from being as-delivered. Perfectly fine that way, and its intended use.

Just asked Nile13, but then realized this would be a great Q for this thread.

Need to do a clutch this year. Its starting to slip between 2-3-4 gears, only about 100-200 rpms, but noticeable if you have an 18-wheeler on your side and you need to downshift to get by...

Given a limited budget, am I better off with LWF or SSK?

LWF hands down. You may also look into getting the Golden Rod from FD Motorsports. I'm due for a new clutch this year and will be giving them a call for a Golden Rod as well. Never been a fan of short shift kits, but to each his own.

OK, here we go...

My C4S came with 2 options from the factory - aluminum shifter, and aluminum E-brake.

The PO did a lot of upgrades, most of which I really like. Here's the list:

Engine
RSR Mufflers - great sound, good value! (PO)
Wide Oval Exhaust Tips - Great looks, good value! (PO)
Motorsound Airbox Package - great sound, good value! (PO)

Drivetrain
Porsche OEM RS Clutch, Light Weight Flywheel, Porsche OEM GT3 Pressure Plate - AWESOME! (PO)

Suspension
Billstein PSS9 - excellent performance and great value (PO)
TRG Hats - not necessary on the street, but since I didn't pay for them why the hell not! (PO)
RS Rear, M030 Front Sway Bars - improve the balance of the car! (PO)
Automotion Tower Strut Brace - eliminates chassis flex under hard cornering, what's not to like! (PO)
Walrod Bushings - I had those installed last year and love how they transformed the car!

Body
OEM Litronic Headlamps (PO) + 3000K HID High Beams installed by me - this is a must have light package, love it! Glad I didn't have to pay for the OEM Litronics though!!
OEM Euro Front Turbo Bumper - looks great! (PO)
OEM Turbo S Front Air Ducts (PO) + 3000K HID Fog Lamps - improve air flow and the HID fog lamps are amazing!
OEM Clear Indicators - look awesome on a silver car! (PO)
Gert Front Protection Bar - to be honest, not sure how much that improves anything but it was there when I got the car so it stays there. (PO)
OEM Turbo S Chin Spoiler - makes the front look even better! (PO)
OEM Euro Rear Bumper - bye bye nasty bumperettes! (PO)
OEM Carrera S Split Grille - looks great! (PO)
Invinca-Shield on key surfaces - I probably wouldn't have done it but it was already there so why the hell not! (PO)

Interior
OEM 996 3-Spoke Airbag Steering Wheel (PO) and I had it reupholstered by CarsDream - the 3-spoker is so much better than a 4-spoke wheel. The reupholstering job made it divine. Best $200 I've ever spent on the car!
Silver Gauge Faces, Aluminum Trim Rings (Palo Alto Speedometer) - PO did those, I could take 'em or leave 'em.
OEM 996 Blue Hardback Sport Seats, Polar Silver Backs - I did those. Wanted more support. Totally worth the $1100 I paid for them.
2.5lb Halon Fire Extinguisher - you never know...
Aluminum Pedals, Footrest, and Interior Door Handles - PO did those. They add a nice touch but I doubt I would've thought of them.
Carrera 4S Aluminum Door Sills - Again, PO's work. They look nice, I wouldn't have spent money on them though.
Removable VW Passat Dual Cup Holder - Added by PO. I've used it maybe once...
Porsche OEM CR-220 Radio + iPod - I spent a total of $85 on those. Removed the ghastly looking Alpine head unit. Almost use the stereo but it's there in case I'm bored (which I never am in this car).
Alpine 1000W Amp - added by PO. I've never bothered to check if it's connected to my current radio or if it was for the previous one. So it stays in the trunk.
MB Quart Speakers (front, rear, tweeters) - PO's work. They sound pretty decent.

Wheels
Currently a work in progress... No value other than looks
Just bought a set of Sumitomo HTR Z III tires based on recommendations here, haven't driven on them yet to have an opinion.

Ilko, to quote a certain movie: "How much for your cupholders? How much are your little cupholders? Sell me your cupholders!".

Mike, thanks, I've been asked to sell it on a number of occasions but would rather hold on to it. It's just one of those things that I *might* need one of these days...

Mike,

I think most have seen my mods but to contribute to this thread, for whatever value it has, here are my mods.

Spent close to $20k for the engine but I think its well worth it. The wheelspin is actually getting scary so I am actually thinking of getting traction control if there is a kit. Of course that would entail changing the ecu.

Engine:
4l L&N pistons and cylinders
ARP head stud bolts, rod bolts
DC 43 cam(should be a bigger cam, planning to go to bigger one soon)
Pauter rods
JE Pistons 11:5 CR
Slightly ported head
1 3/4 headers, fabspeed maxflo mufflers
New valve guides etc
LWF and RS clutch(not too sure though if its RS but it has the center springs on the plate)
50mm ITBs - PMO
42 lb fuel injectors
Electromotive Direct fire ignition
TEC3r ecu, 2 O2 sensors, one for each bank

Suspension
JIC coilovers with adj camber plates $1,750?, I really like these shocks. As they say, cheaper versions of motons.
TRG sway bars(on its way so no feedback yet)
Strut brace $129(recommended by Darren F!, on its way)
Tarret drop links $250?
Elephant Racing toe links $650?, highly recommend this mod!
Thinking of Walrod bushings and Elephant sport bushings. Also planning on EVO uprights and tie-rods to get rid of the slight bumpsteer. Noticed the bumpsteer on rough turns.

Interior
Recaro Super Stark $2k. I like this set very much.
Rennline shifter ****(I am planning on a FD golden rod)
Rennsport steering wheel

Exterior
Getty RSCS splitter and rear wing $1,700 for both? Really like the looks and of course the downforce is very noticeable at high speeds.
I was considering RSR wheel arches but decided not to. The car might feel to wide and I think will loose its nimbleness. But then again, who knows?

Wheels
HRE 540 18s, I would want lighter wheels in the future. Maybe forgelines or OZ's. BBS RS GT come to mind too.

Paul

And I painted my brakes red to be "cool" like the 993TT boys.

Paul, I have JiC Magics on my autocross appliance and like them quite a lot. As for Rennline ****, is it the round metal one? If so, some feedback would be great on feel and hot/cold temperatures.

Ilko, I have one of these cupholders, but rubber seems to deteriorate on them and I'd like a reasonable backup if I can find it. A great product that VAG discontinued in their infinite wisdom.

Yes its the round one. Concerning the heat it doesnt really bother me. But I was thinking of wrapping it in leather at one point. Thats bec my brother did it to his 964 and I kinda liked it. But I decided to keep it as is.
