Default 993 Mechanics south of Boston

Having newly acquired a '97 993 C4S, I’m interested in knowing what reputable mechanics there might be on the Boston South Shore. The car lives near Hingham / Cohasset... Any advice?

Not exactly south shore but not a huge drive-EPE in Natick.

I'm right down 3A in Marshfield. If you have any questions or concerns about the car, just drop me a line.

There aren't really any 993 or Porsche specialists on the South Shore that I'm aware of. I would strongly recommend taking a pass on Porsche of Norwell (formerly Rietzl Porsche), as their prices are comical ... they said $4500 to repair the evaporator -- $2000 more than any other dealer in the area.

I take my car to Jerry at EPE in Natick -- http://epe.com -- it's a bit of a drive but he is very good. There is also Randolph Racing in Stoughton, but that's not really any more convenient to where you're at than Natick is.

Welcome to the club!

yeah, I know Rietzl Porsche thru a buddy who had a 996 4S, and he also thought they were 'stratosphric' cost wise. I've looked at EPE on the web and searched them out on this BBS, and they seem to have a very good reputation. Natick is a bit of a haul though, but come spring I'll visit with them.

I saw a posting regarding Randolph Racing in Stoughton that kinda puts me off from them...

I think Paul Tossi's shop is down that way.

Holsen, if you go to either NER or NCR PCA pages and read their rags online (Northlander and... um... don;t remember the name of the other one), there are several decent shops advertising there. You can ask for their reputation on Rennlist.

Are you a former 500e owner? Your name sounds familiar. Either way, enjoy the new car!

Congratulations. I'm close by the area. If it's routine stuff like oil change And filters there's an independant guy in Cohasset who can do that kind of thing no problem. He's honest and reasonable and I see Porsches of all eras in his lot all the time. If you have a day to spend the guy is Natick EPE is your guy from everything I've read here. I just don't have the time to go all the out there for routine things. The local dealer is insane and I'd never go there unless forced to. Good luck with your new car.

Conway Autoworks in Hanover is close. Kenny Conway owns races and repairs P cars and should be able to handle your needs.

Well, took delivery of the C4S yesterday, and while on a mini-shakedown cruz noticed oil smoke billowing out ... Took it to Norwell Porsche, and they drained some oil out; Prior owner had over filled it.

However, while it was racked they pointed out some brake issues with the in-board pistions not moving the way they should and said I needed new pads and rotors... for $1496 in the front and $1209 in the rear... as well as a major service for $2028.

Ouch. I'll contact EPE and see how competitive this is...

You can also check out EuroTech in Framingham. Only a 2 miles from EPE.. I live in Natick, so I have great choices, but yet still most work myself ;-).. Planning on doing clutch in spring myself, if I mess it up... guess the tow charge wont be too much in town ;-).

Welcome and GOOD Luck....

I"ll be really interested in how much they want at EPE. In my opinion you'd be crazy to have the work done at Norwell Porsche - they are simply outrageous.

That's obscene ... last year when I did the fronts and rears (pads and rotors) on my car in Austin at a respected independent who is far from cheap, judging by the Ferraris in the shop, it was $450 in labor and $900 or so in parts. Porsche parts, not aftermarket. They want twice as much. Typical.

If the shop a previous poster was referring to is Majestic in Cohasset, I think they closed up. And I will say that they took the previous owner of my car for a very expensive ride replacing a bunch of hoses and a MAF to try and get the check engine light to shut off due to the SAI failure, so caveat emptor on any place that doesn't specifically specialize in Porsches and the air-cooled cars in particular.
