OT Gen 1 M3 on Bring a Trailer
Bring a Trailer (.com) has unmolested, 1988 M3 for sale...14000 miles one owner. Overpriced? Maybe considering the probable need for fuel system work. Still, very appealing white M3. Also, tan/beige interior not so desireable. Thoughts on value?

Seems a bit high, but... damn I want an E30 M3. You can't really put a price on originality, so if it is worth it to you, make an offer and hold on to it for a while. I seriously doubt it will be worth any less than that, if maintained well, ~10 years from now.
80s and 90s classics aren't getting any less rare. Grab them up while they are still affordable (not this example, but in general). I still can't believe we picked up my wife's pristine E36 M3 for less than $10k. Helluva car for the price of a CPO Hyundai bargain basement model.

I love older BMW's (had a bunch of e28 Euro and U.S. M5's) but $50K??? That's the equivalent of a '98 C2S in excellent shape with extras....Or a totally restored '65 or '66 HiPo Mustang fastback. Get a grip on reality!

Drool, I love Alpine White over black, but the tan isn't bad.
I have a feeling it will sell this week at that price point. The E30 M3 crowd has much the same mentality as the 993 guys, but I think they're much crazier.

I really like older BMWs -- e30s and e28s especially -- and hot rodded many a 2002. But I never really got the e30 M3. Give me a heavily modded 325i with ALPINA (or equivilent) suspension, etc. More torque, handles just as well and doesn't have that lumpy 4 cylinder....

No you don't.
This sounds like it's almost a museum piece. I can totally see it for selling north of $45K. There are a lot of 2002 and E30 geeks out there, and I expect that 98% of these were modded, abused or both especially by the 2nd and 3rd owners.

Personally, I think it will sell to someone with deep pockets close to the asking price. It has the low miles and one-ownership history...despite it's need for maintainence;

So, I sold my E30 M3 five years ago. It had 101,000 miles on it, and I sold it for $27,000. Diamondshwartz black over grey interior. It was all original except for 18" M-Parallel wheels. Paint and body panels all original and I upgraded the car with a bunch of euro onl goodies, EVO III adjustable rear spoiler, EVO II cloth interior, Hella smoked headlights, and a complete S14 motor rebuild by Mario Langsten at Vintage Sports Racing in Concord, New Hampshire! Those cars aren't cheap but there is nothing like them on the road. Plus BMW only produced 4,998 for the U.S. so they are incredibly rare.
I also sold my track prepped E30 M3 for 19,000. It was upgraded with full ground control adjustable coilover suspension other track goodies, it was Brilliant red and had 130,000 miles on it.
I can absolutely see this car selling for $50K or more! It is probably one of the lowest mileage E30 M3's left in existance. The value on these cars has increased dramatically in the past few years and it makes me wish I hadn't sold either one of mine!

On the other hand, my old E30 325is was fantastic. With E30 M3 springs, sways, Konis, steering rack, it handled just as well as the E30 M3. I've owned an E24 M635CSI, E46 M3, E30 M3 2.5. Though not the fastest, the E30 325is is the best BMW IMHO. I do miss the S38 M635CSI engine (but not the rest of the car). Too bad the S38 is too heavy to place in the E30 chassis.
Cheers,
Joe

$40-50k wouldn't surprise me, but I do agree that a black interior would be much preferred. Here's a shot of mine way back when had the lovely red interior...(it was a good deal when I bought it, and had the grey carpets, so only the seats & door panels were the burgandy/red)
loved that car! Had the 17" Racing Dynamics wheels, front strut brace, Evo II front spoiler, and a few other things.

Agree completely. The S14 4 cyl engine is an aquired taste which I never aquired even though I restored an E30 M3 to 2.5 EVOIII (240hp) specs. Never got along with the engine (which was much better than the stock 2.3 version). Boomy, buzzy, and not very fast. It ruined an otherwise brilliant car.
