Off is probably better. It makes no sense that every previous 911 going all the way back to the 901 never had an engine cover.
And for those who argue that they notice no difference in temperature with or without, consider this: your gauge measures oil temperature inside the engine, but what about outside? I can assure you that an engine cover traps heat all over your engine bay causing for faster degradation of rubber-made components, like gaskets and belts.
