Default Steve Weiner-Rennsport Systems 993 GIAC Performance Chip

i sold the DACH bypass pipes. next up is the GIAC chip. marriage does the strangest things to some people, but makes up for the stupid things they did before. i'm no different.

in any case, it's time to fund my next project and i need to continue selling off things i REALLY do not need. the chip has been great. read the reviews. chip controversy or not, Steve has a reputation for quality and it is reflected in his GIAC chips.

my ***-o-meter gauge reads a big fat smile on my face every time i push the throttle. with the stock chip replaced, now it will only read a smile.

enough of the nonsense.

asking $350. retails for $500. if you were lucky to have snagged it on a GB, it is less, and for $350, it's a bargain. make sure you have a .163 ECU.

You should say what DME it's for. If ti's immobilizer compatible.

I think 95 and 97-98 cars will work with this chip. I think 96 cars are left out ?

Really? I thought a '95 chip could only be used with a '95 with that specific ECU number. Even within the '95 model year, I believe there were three different variations.

This is an OBD-1 95 chip. More specifically, the .163 ECU is the early 95 ECU with no drive block.
Cheers,
Joe

That is correct, Sir.

US '95 cars came with either .163, .674, or .675 (immobilizer-equipped) versions.

Here are the Bosch and Porsche part numbers for US non-vram 993s:

1. Early 95s (no drive block) – Porsche # 993.618.123.02 / Bosch # 0.261.203.163
2. Later 95s w/o Drive Block – Porsche # 993.618.123.03 / Bosch # 0.261.203.674
3. Later 95s with Drive Block – Porsche # 993.618.124.03 / Bosch # 0.261.203.675

Whats the difference between .163 and .674? I have .674 (with immobilizer) and wondering if this chip will work. And is immobilizer and drive block the same thing?

As said, they are not all the same. You can only "chip" the 95's, & there are a couple versions. If you use a non-immoblizer chip on a immobilizer car the immobilizer light will never stop blinking, it's very annoying.

97+ cars get "flashed" & are over 2X the cost of the chip.

The other question is does the GIAC chip use a decoder board to work?

I'm no expert, but Steve tells me you need an Ecu with a .163 stamp. It was in a 95 so makes sense to be for obd1. It's also programed for 93OCT but i only ran 91 since i'm on cali...no issues for me though.

One more question, is there a different program/chip from Rennsport for LWF vs DMF?

I couldn't find anything on the website.

If the answer is "this chip works with an early 993 with a LWF" I'll take it. Already verified the DME #.

Thanks.

Yeah, good question. I've got another person in line first asking the same question about the lwf.

"Calling Dr Weiner. Dr Weiner, do you have an answer for us, please?"

That chip has maps in it for the LWF.

Of course, the propensity to stall depends on many other factors beyond mapping such as the condition of the oxysensor(s), ignition system, any vacuum leaks, ISV, etc.

hchc, it appears you do not have the correct ecu for this chip, sorry.
