why is it so hard to find a 993 carrera..
hi i am new to this forum and i believe this is the biggest porsche forum online?
im usually active on bimmeroforums and maxbimmer.
My current car is an e36 m3 and im looking to get a 993 carrera.. because imo, they are beautiful cars and a lot more mature looking then my e36 m3.
I live in toronto and ive been trying to find some 993s on autotrader or kijiji..and nothing..
can anyone help me or give me some advice on where to look at for nice 993s in toronto or near toronto?
thank you guys in advance

Welcome to Rennlist, and yes, it is the best 993 forum out there.
You may want to edit your title, as it says 996, not 993.
One of the best places to find a well cared for 993 is in the classifieds here on Rennlist. It would also help if you told us what you're looking for, i.e., convertible or a widebody, etc.
Good luck, the hunt is half the fun!

^^ thanks for the heads up haha ..still getting used to porsche model names,
the one i fell in love with is the 993
i would like to get a hard top , not convertible
and plus which models came wide body and non wide body?
i read that carrera 4S came with the 911 turbo body and that is why it is a bit wider?
is that the only difference between 993 carrera vs 993 carrera 4S?

The 993 S has the wide body along with the turbo and 4S.
I "believe" the only difference btwn a S and non S would be:
Offset of rear wheels
brakes
Front bumper
Side skirts
Fat rear fenders!

You are probably going to want to google 993 and learn A LOT more before you make a decision so you learn the models inside out (of 993's). Also, you can do a search on this forum or just read back up to 10 pages or so on the 993 forum and you'll get a much better feel for the car.
You will also want to consider go a LONG way possibly, to get the car you want. I'd say that MANY of us have had to do that to find the car they wanted. I spent 4 months of furious searching till I found the silver with black interior C4S I could afford. There were some local cars which were a good $5k more than the one I found in Chicago. I had a Rennlister look at it for me and I bought it sight unseen after I had them do a PPI for me from afar. I drove it the 950 miles home after flying out to get it.
Best thing I've ever purchased other than my 27" iMac.
Good luck,
Steve

Do some searching here and you can find tons of threads answering your questions. Some of the search terms you might need:
C2 vs C2S (or use "versus")
C2 vs C4S
C2S vs C4S
widebody vs narrowbody
WB vs NB
A recent thread:

Oh, and "Why is it hard to find a 993"? Because they are so desirable!!!

C2S has split spoiler grill painted body color, standard wheels were the same as C2 (but most ended up with turbo hollows optioned or added by dealer it appears).
In addition to above comments, C4S has:
LSD - limited slip diff
AWD - all wheel drive
Factory turbo-look wheels (NOT turbo hollow spokes... Porsche cheaped out on that)
Something else I'm sure I'm missing...

I'm from Toronto as well. Agree it is pretty hard to locate a decent 993 in this region; especially when you are looking for a Canadian car. If you can find one, price is usually very high.
I spent over a year until I hunted down a decent low milage one with full history.
Key is to be patient. Take your time and enjoy the process. Email me if you need any help in your search. I may be able to share more information. It is always nice to help a fellow Torontorian to get into the wonderful 993 world...

Nevermind its now winter. Lots of owners who want to sell their cars have them stored now - and will take them out again for sale in the spring.
You are in Toronto, so for local cars its especially true. I am in Vancouver which is better since we are more temperate, but since your search should be across the entire north american continent, a lot of that area is subject to cold, snow and rain - all putting the stops on people selling.
You will have to be patience, and be prepared in the spring - things will heat up a bit.
Cheers,
Mike

Welcome to the "993 world".
It is hard to find a "mint" one. You will spend money on PPI´s(always ask to include the Leak Down test)....at some months you will find the right one. I agree, stay tuned with marked place here in the forum.
I have after a few months searching, seen a clear trend in the marked. Price is up, and as many as 10-15 Coupes with manual tranny are shipped to Europe every week. Targas and Cabs and the tiptronic is more like a "nada" option for them, so on these models you may find a bargain object.
Good luck, hope you will find one rather soon.

Welcome. I sold my E36 M3 to get a 993 eight years ago and haven't looked back. I agree that one of the best places to find a 993 is on this board. They key is to read up, figure out exactly what you want and let people know you are looking. Another member posted pics of my car and I commented in the thread that his was the exact car I was looking for. 10 minutes later I had a PM and 2 weeks later it was in my driveway. Don't be scared to buy from a distance, but a PPI is cruicial. I had mine shipped from Michigan to Tennessee.
