I'm looking at buying a 993 cab that will require a new top due to multiple tears.
Does anyone have a relatively current cost figure to replace the can top in black? If you've gone through this, please share if it was a factory or aftermarket can top.
Thanks much,
Rick

Rick -
Have not done this but will soon. You want a German Canvas top, this is the longer lasting OEM type material, so avoid saving a buck on the top. Some sources are GAHH & Rich and Famous.
The going rate for installation seems to be in the 1K - 1200 range. Try doing a search and you may get a better feel for the cost.
Hope this helps.

A rule of thumb for buying replacement canvas tops is if it seems too cheap to be for real, it's fake German Canvas made in China.

$2K +/- $300, depending on headliner and a few other things. Cheaper in CA, more expensive on the East Coats.
That should give you a figure for budgeting. I've done 2 in the past 4 years.

The top itself is about $1200 for a good quality one - install price is about $800 - $1000 at a high end shop. Do not go low ball as you hate it when you have had a year and it pulls/rips at seams.

If you go with the Gahh, make sure that the shop looks at the windscreen zipper. Several of them have had the zipper in the headliner sewn in backwards. It needs to be corrected before installation.

Vic, it seems lower than what it should be, but I have not measured it side-to-side with another cab. It's a Gahh top. As usual, the window is a bit wavy, optically.
They are not particularly great quality in my opinion, but everyone uses them, so there's really very little choice. Vince mentioned the zipper issue - my first Gahh had a reversed zipper, this one does not.

Autotopsdirect has best prices for German Canvas . Get this instead of GAHH and save 300 bucks. I got mine along with new headliner. Same as Factory.

It's all fine and dandy to get a less expensive top. But local installers either refuse to install them or simply charge the same $300 more for installation vs. installing their own sourced Gahh tops.
