Silver Crest Hood Emblem D.I.Y
Stuff you need:
1-Silver Plating solution
there are two types (photo)
there is solution , and solution with polish mixed
both do the same, but solution by itself is better
2- electric cable
In picture I grabbed what was around, an RCA cable
3- two AA batteries
$15 - and 30 minutes
proceedure:
attach the batteries to the cable in a parallel config. using tape
that is positive signs together attached to red cable
negative to the black negative cable.
attach the negative plug of the cable to the back pins of the emblem
fill a small cup with the solution you purchased
dip the positive side of cable in solution
dip the emblem in the solution for 15 - 20 minutes
prevent the positive part from touching the emblem.
take out and wash with mild soap and hot water.
take some silver polish red paste and polish the emblem in straight lines, never in circles. Just rub in straight lines you will get a mirror finish
voila !

Nice work. The original painted surfaces act as masking, so nothing changes there. I'm assuming you painted the Porsche lettering with the gold before you started?

Too cool for words. I kept thinking all I needed to do is take a badge to a local metal plating company to get this done. Never got around to it. Now it's even simpler............ there's a DIY. Great Christmas gift. This rocks! Thanks.

Excellent. Now how on earth did you get gold within the letters?
Place an aluminum foil on base of a pan, and fill with water up only 1 centimeter,
put a teaspoon of baking powder and a few grains of salt
boil the water.
hold the emblem with huge cooking anti heat glove.
dip the emblem on the porsche letters side into the boiling water.
4 to 5 minutes later, the black lettering will fall, and reveals the gold underneath.
VOILA
