Quad if I could use the 993 as part of family fun and take little getaway vacations with it I would love to keep it. I just know it'll be much easier to throw a stroller, pampers, baby food, clothes, clothes for my wife and I in the back of my truck instead of cramming it into a 993 for a very uncomfortable ride. Unless I get a roof rack, which believe it or not I have thought of doing. Magdaddy has one on his and it doesn't look bad at all.

I have a complete roof rack system never used (Thule) and will sell it to you cheap if it helps you keep the 993.

My 15 month old son has not been for a ride in the Porsche yet (rear facing till two) but he loves the car. He always wants to go to the garage. He makes a bit of a fuss when we have to leave the garage. If you can do it keep both Porsches. If it isn't practical to have both then at least one is necessary, IMO.
great pic, made me LOL

Lots of great family shots posted, very cool.

Spending time with family doesn't have to be at odds with the car. The little girl pictured below is quite a speed addict. She will get me a ticket one day... a bad influence

As I said in an earlier post, I added rear seats (sacrilege!) to my GT3 so we could use it more often.
Great for day trips, at least when they are the age/size of my kids.
(pic below for illustration purposes only. My daughter isn't quite tall enough to sit back there without a booster)

All great pics guys. I have good arguments from both sides. Right now it is a toss up. I guess best thing to do is wait until the spring and see how I feel then. Kilodawg if I decide to keep the car and that rack is still for sale I WILL be purchasing it from you. I have a Thule Combibox that mounts to that rack that would fit a lot of baby items!!!

Chris, you've hit the nail on the head. You also won't want to be loading up the roof rack either.

the fact that you are strongly considering selling should say something to you. I think you know its the choice that makes the most sense. You shouldn't be worrying about whether you can cram a diaper bag in the back seat or whether your baby will spit up all over the back seat.

You should be worrying about enjoying your new baby. Congrats btw.

Thanks. Yes I know, just the fact I am asking this question makes me realize that I already know what I should do, but it is hard to let go of something that I enjoy. I always said I would love to have a kid back there and go on little trips. Now that the time has come, (well not yet I still have 7 months of sleeping), my mind is preparing to do what is best for my family. I would love to combine the two, baby and Porsche, and was shown lots of pictures and proof it can be done, so I am still not 100% dead set on selling. But I still have an old SC targa, this is my 2nd 993, and all that before I was 35. My father waited until he was 50 to get his dream car (the SC which I now own), so if I look at it this way I was able to have a lot of my toys that my parents had to sacrifice owning and enjoying, they kept it practical and did what was best for my sister and I. I may have to start another thread on what an appropriate asking price should be for my car.

Sorry to highjack, but MarkD, did you post anywhere about your seat add? That has always been one of the turnoffs about the GT3

That is exactly how we use the car as a family, of course...my daughter was 9 when I got it last summer. We have taken many day trips with it, even went to get the Christmas Tree with it this year...that got quite a few looks. Certainly, a weekend getaway with the family would be doable, if packing was done reasonably.

I was gonna fire you a PM with my thoughts, but...if you can afford to keep it, keep it. If you have garage space for it, keep it. You'll probably never take a loss financially on the car, and we all know how difficult it is to find a nice example of a well cared for 993...especially a WB.

You took some time to make it right, now take some time to enjoy it. If it isn't about needing the money, or needing the garage space, having to relocate, etc...just keep the damn car.

I got one kid, and one Porsche. You got one kid on the way and two Porsche's, you bastard!

As Jay said earlier, not the season to sell anyway...so get the battery tender hooked up. Besides, you'll be too busy getting the nursery ready, and running to the store to satisfy the wife's food cravings.

Congratulations on the baby Chris, being a father is hands down the most rewarding role a man can play.

this thread covers it: https://rennlist.com/forums/showthre...eferrers=35947

others blazed the trail with the seat bottoms and belts
I needed the backs in place also (older kids) and figured it out.
wasn't easy but well worth it
it adds about 38lbs, small trade off from where I sit

turns the gt3 into a weekend family car. Sorta
like Magdaddy, it has already seen a lot of family fun
he has me beat with the tree hauling though

That is awesome Mark.

Ding Ding Ding, opportunity right there. So many P owners love the GT3 but lack of back seats is
a deal killer. Even current owners would love to convert.

My wife wants me to buy a GT3! Yes, sounds weird to say, but she just wants me to shut up about it I suppose.
However, I really need to haul the kiddos.

I can only come from the perspective of a shop owner talking to customers who felt they had to sell because of changes in family situation (marriage, children, divorce). Most guys would stop by down the road to talk cars, or check in to see if the new owner was using me for service/repair/mods. Of course the sample is skewed because the guys who never stopped back by likely sold and never looked back. But the ones who did almost in every case regretted it.

Funny how I read all this talk of car seats and child passengers. In the "Olden Days" that wasn't even a part of the conversation. I know lots of kids who grew up in Porsches. One ex-girlfriend's family toted her and her siblings around in the back of a T-5 Cab 4 cammer!

Nope, it just takes some time. My oldest is 3rd yr. university, and the second one will graduating from high school in June - and life is now changing again, we can be spontaneous, go out when we want, and often is just myself and the misses now at home.

Both kids have grown up with Porsches, both have slept, giggled, cried, read, and watched from both the back and front seats. The back seat lasted from birth until about 12-14 years old, then they needed to move up to the front. They can still fold up for the rear seats if needed, but not for long..

Cheers,

Mike

I promised myself to buy a 4 or 4S on the next one. Drive the RB cab in summer and C4(s) through the winter.

I love seeing these cars in the snow and the owners making the most out of it.

Sounds like you have some thinking to do and hats off to you for really considering all variables.
