Who here has sold their car because a child was on the way?

I haven't read through all the posts, but to answer the OP question.
I say keep it. In fact, I bought my 993 a month after my second daughter was born and my oldest was still in a booster. I put 8k miles on it that year. The kids love the 993!

Snow? What's that? Rumors of a couple of feet in Tahoe so far. I've got no reason to fire up the 4S until I head up on non-clear roads. Battery finally died a couple of weeks ago. Maybe getting it running next month?

Like some of the others on here, I actually bought one of these so I *could* use it as a short-haul kid mobile as needed. As the father of a 1yr old and 3yr old, I can tell you from direct experience that the 993 can be used to haul kids around in car seats. They are both dropped off at daycare daily via the 993. Obviously there are newer and more practical choices out there, but that doesn't mean the 993 is incapable of performing the task.
I spent quite a bit of time on here researching car seats and coming up with a workable solution. Ended up with a Britax for the little one and a Graco for the older one. Used Rennline mounts instead of the belts and retrofitted the rear seat tether using a latch for an Audi A8 and some Porsche parts (the covers for the holes you need to cut are actual 911 parts). This is all documented on here at length. It was a bit of work to find seats that fit, but they are out there. You will give up some front legroom, but as long as you're not a giant (I'm 5'10"), it's reasonable.
The only real problem is fitting a rear-facing child seat. Children <1yr (this law seems to be changing, depending on where you live) must be rear-facing. These seats are very bulky, especially the convertible types that allow you to switch to forward facing later. None of these will fit in the rear of the 993. The rear seats are just too shallow and you can't get the front seat forward enough. You can fit them in front though, but that means giving up on any passenger and it would be required to disconnect your passenger side airbag while you're at it. The 996 and later cars have a bar that helps adapt the car seats and also disables the pass. airbag. I am not aware of the availability of one of these for the 993 though.
Boittom line is that the 993 is fully capable of being a part-time kid hauler. It does take some extra work on your part, but they can fit securely and safely. Both of my girs enjoy rides in the Porsche as well, which helps put an extra smile on yours truly. Besides, what's cooler than rolling up to daycare in a slammed 993 with Fister stage IIs?

^^^ WHat he said! ^^^^
Up to 1yr, the rear facing seat is the only challenging part. From 1yr old up, I find the 993 as easy to use as a daily kid shuttle as my Audi A4. In fact, the kids find it easier to climb in and buckle themselves. My 4 yr old hops right into her booster, buckles herself in, and we're off. The kids like it better because they can see out the windows better. It makes the mundane trips more fun!

I don't have kids, but I say keep it. You'll most likely regret it later, and you obviously don't need a more practical car with the Tundra and JK.
My wife told me the other day she wants to be driven to the hospital to give birth in the 993... She (and the 993) are definitely a keepers!!

I have a few kids, some driving now. I've also had an extra pleasure vehicle of one sort or another for 25 years. A few years back I had a bout of conscience over "not really needing" the extra car and sold it, most miserable 6 months of my adult life. The wife grew tired of my state (and frankly my internal resentment) and told me to get something, I then bought my first Porsche. Suddenly everything was right with the world again. The OP has 2 such vehicles, maybe dropping one will be less of a shock. Good Luck.

My first child was induced. Its pretty funny. You make an appointment like you are going in for a haircut. We were driving to the hospital in my first 993, a 98 C2S. It is to this day, the only time, in my roughly 8 years of 993 ownership that I spun the car. It was wet. I came around a corner just a bit too quick and either hit the accelerator or let off at the wrong time (I cant recall which). Before we knew it , the rear was facing the wrong way.
We still tell that story to my son, who is now a 6 year old car nut. That he was having fun in Porsches before he was even born!

careful though...Stage lll's have been known to scare small children and animals. Picking my daughter(10 years old) up from cheerleading practice this summer, just as I cranked the car over-another young girl and her mother were RIGHT behind the car. That little girl literaly jumped three feet in the air and screamed...it was a very proud moment for me and of course...I couldn't have done it without FDM.
or as the guy at the gas station asked..." is there something wrong with your mufflers?"

Funny. I have a true story about this. Harlan (owner of my original 993, dont read further )
