I figured out the fd part of your user name before you even mentioned it.
I've managed to avoid the marriage and kid part, although I have been asked a few times already. Cripes, what is this world coming to.

I totally expected my wife to say that I have to sell the 993 but she has been cool about it. She certainly wouldn't stop me from selling but she is in no way pushing me to which is a surprise to me. Who knows it could be all part of her secret master plan. I know one thing she'll be happy that I wouldn't be spending 5 hours a night searching through Rennlist.

To the OP, given the time of year, I'd wait 3-4 months before making a decision whether to sell or hold. It will give you time to think and you'll hit the market at the right time.

congrats Chris!
FWIW, my family and I have totally enjoyed these cars, as a family
2 kids, 2 back seats
it works out, at least as long as they still fit in the rest seats
heck, I even went so far as to add back seats to a GT3
not a simple task
either way, enjoy the new phase in your life!

Had my daughter in the back front facing. My 5'11" wife had to move her seat up a little further than she'd like to. It's better now that the daughter is in the booster. I made a plywood "deck" that slightly extends about 4" beyond the front edge of the lower seat which provides a firm surface to crank down the seat belt for the front facing seat when I used the Mighty-Tite. It also provides the booster with more surface area.
My seat is almost all the way back, so no child sits behind me. As a result, my 3 year old son hasn't even ridden in the car yet. Nevertheless, he's completely mad for "daddy's Por-sha." We will all be able to ride in the car in that brief window of time when my daughter will weight 60 to 90 pounds and can sit behind me with no booster. My son will be in the booster behind my wife.
See? Family car...easy!

I've got three kids plus a golden retriever and my car was a Boxster (only two seats) that worked for seven years. I only recently sold it for a 993. People are way too uptight about having big cars especially with small kids. As long as you have one decent sized car (five seat wagon like an Audi A4 which my wife has) you'll be totally fine. It'll likely be rare that you need the second car to be big at all and when the kids do get a ride in it they'll be so happy to ride in the sports car. Definitely DON'T sell it!!!

I'm in your shoes and frankly if I had a streetable coupe like yours I might have kept it. I had a cabrio and fitting the seat in the back was not doable, plus the safety issues. So I sold it and... got a 928! Its a wonderful Porsche, different than the 993 but still an amazing car to drive daily. Recently we went on a trip to the Oregon coast, my wife and 2 year old in his seat in the back, plus stroller, plus luggage, plus foldable baby crib, plus shopping on the way, fit all that and then some in its monster huge trunk! The 928 is a true GT and a great family car!
If you are only thinking of family ice cream runs or shopping, then the 993 will do just fine. A long trip with loads of luggage will challenge you if driving the Porsche is a must. But then again, how many long trips are you really going to take?

OK, if seeing Kiwi's pictures didn't do it for you, nothing will! I have 3 kids, and bought the 993 without a worry because it has usable rear seats. I sold my Aston because as a two seater, that meant the kids would get no riding enjoyment out of it.
When my first was born, I had just bought a new 996 C4 cab. I thought I needed to be "responsible" and get a family friendlier car, but I realized that was nonsense: who says you can't put a child in the back seat? Granted, if it had been our only car, it wouldn't be that convenient, but I assume your wife's car will fit the bill.
