When I swapped on my winter wheels last week, several of the original black lug nuts looked a bit splotchy from age. Taking advantage of several recent days of warmer weather, I cleaned and then resprayed all the lug nuts using two coats of Eastwood chassis black, a semi-satin finish.

For a quick touch-up of any bright spots on your everyday black lug nuts, a black Sharpie marker works well, and looks good from five feet away...

When I was restoring cars I found an old electric oven on the side of the road and bought the Harbor Freight Powdercoating gun + powders from Eastwood. I got excellent results from that kit, I did tons of small parts and the cost per part was almost negligible even amortizing the equipment. The high gloss silver "chrome" powder was actually quite good and decently reflective. Not "chrome good" but better than most spray paints.
I still have lots of powders in different colors so if anyone local wants to give powdercoating a shot (get wife permission first if using the house oven!) I will loan the gun out for free. I also have a small compressor you could borrow if needed.
BTW, when I moved the oven stayed behind, otherwise I would offer the service for cheap since its really not difficult to do.

I never actually powder coated lug nuts, I always bought the chrome ones for our Muscle Cars.
Powdercoating is pretty durable however it is a little bit brittle so it might not take well to an impact hammer, but then paint won't either. I did a lot of door/hood hinges, miscellaneous brackets, valve covers, that sort of thing.
I wonder what the cost would be to run a batch of lug nuts through an Aluminum Titianium Nitride coating process. This leaves a matte black finish and is found on some new cutting tools. TiALN coating would probably be the ultimate black lug nut finish. Anyone know a source?
