Who makes Porsche's 993 Oil Filters?
I just ordered a couple pairs of oil filters for my car from Sunset Porsche. I was surprised to see a Genuine Porsche part, from a Genuine Porsche dealer, say "Made in United States" on it! Does anyone know who actually makes these for Porsche? They weren't, what I would call, expensive from Sunset. However, it would be nice to know if there was something available, that was EXACTLY the same filter, just in a different box available to us in a pinch.

Well Mahle is a German company so I don't think it would be made in the U.S. It's probably a big company that nobody's ever heard of but makes filters that end up with all the big brand names stuck on them.

I know there is a difference between Mahle and Porsche filters on the secondary oil filter - check out the Turbo forum to find out what impact having a Mahle filter on your Turbo can have.
That is definitely interesting, I will have to check the filters I bought from Sunset a while back.
Cheers,
Mike

When I switched to the Porsche oil filters (from dealer) on my first oil change, my 993 did, in fact, sound better and did'nt burn any oil anymore. Never went to an aftermarket oil flter since.

Really? Are those two (oil filter causing oil to "burn" more) related in some way? I can understand "use" as in leak maybe, but don't understand the "burn" connection. Please explain.

Only use filters from the dealer for the 993TT
They are not that expensive and you will save yourself aggravation and money.
Search my username in the TT forum to see how I know.

Not sure why the use of Porsche branded oil filters made such a difference, but that was the only change I made. I ruled out the actual oil brand as I've always used the same brand since purchasing the vehicle and within that first year I owned it, I was adding more oil than I ever did. Either way, I'm pleased and never deviated from the result.

I'm tempted to pull the Porsche stickers off the body of the filter and see what I can see.

Interesting. I ordered my filters from Autohausaz. Their brand was mahle/knecht and mann. Both says made in Austria. Aren't these OE suppliers to Porsche? Should we only use filters that's branded PORSCHE?
