Default Does anyone here ice race their 993?

I've had a go at it with motorcycles.

Anyone?

If so, some photos would be great!

Thank you.

This is a vintage two-stroke smoker.

Cool! Interesting that gear shift and brake on right side? I guess you need the left foot free while drifting.

It is best not to "drift", the more hooked up you are, the faster you go.

Circuits are run counter-clockwise, so the right-side shift is advantageous.

We have a small local track here. I'm wondering if anyone has had a go at it w/ their 993? Bet it would be fun!

Ice raced an MR2, Miata and BMW M6 of all things. But not a 993.

lots of experience in my Audi Coupe Quattro. Just running non studded Nokia's-before they added the "N" on the end-people confusing cellphones and tires I imagine.

I would have loved to run ice racing tires, but didn't have the brake clearance, or fender clearance if you had to choose.

I would run open class times, but locally, you simply didn't mix it up with the open class folks if you had a nice car. So I was stuck running TT's on Sunday's.

I could head to the Lake George area and run in classes, as there were lots of other "nice" cars-Audi's Volvo's, Saab's etc. No intentional rubbing going on there.

That used to be lots of fun, no better way to learn car control. Ahhh, the ole scandinavian flick, Audi's were real good at that-engine all in front of the front axle and all. I'm sure you could easily "set" a 993 at turn in...catching it every time might be another story.

My father used to ice race, the car would be totaled after every event. The rules must have changed, as I couldn't imagine using a 993 out there.

We ice race up here in Edmonton and you are right about damage on the car. There is always contact with something if not another car sooner or later you'll hit a snow bank usually sooner.

I couldn't imagine running a 993 but you can have a lot of fun in a Neon or even a Chevette. I really helps with car control skills.

Not a 993, but spent some time on the Lake Superior inner harbor ice during my undergrad years in Thunder Bay Canada with a '72 Super Beetle; that car was a great ice racer, some years we had awesome smooth ice but most times more like off roading.

Thanks Jager!

Sure puts a big smile on my face! Thanks for remembering.

The Riv blue and snow make for awesome scenery.

Lately I've been sliding like that, but on this . . .

(tried to insert snowmobile pic here)

700cc two-stroke triple w/ Fox suspension. It needs a new track so you slide turn it ;-)

.

.

But when I find one of these SOS describes (see post #16) I'll be all over it and set her up with studs . . . .

Wishing you all the best!
