I created this post last week in the 964 forum, no 993s but fun pictures anyway.
Looks like a great way to build your driving skills!

I've had a go at it with motorcycles.

If so, some photos would be great!

Al-- How 'bout a video with vintage motorcycles?

Timely bump Jaeger as it was -2 degrees here this morning.

Great video, the grin on the guys face says it all!

A few years back I passively toyed with the idea of getting a beater 993 for ice racing. That was back in the day when you could pick up a high miler that needed work for $12k. I didn't pursue an all out search (I should have as today, totaled cars sell for $22k). The thought was to have a summer track/DE car that I could slap some studdies on, bring her up over to Lake George and let it all hang out.

It is still not a bad idea . . .

Thank you and Happy New Year!

Best Regards,

.

We have a small local track here. I'm wondering if anyone has had a go at it w/ their 993? Bet it would be fun!

Why don't you be the first in a993 and report back on how it all went?

I think the 70's movie, On Any Sunday, had a segment dedicated to motorcycle ice racing...Called em buzz saws on wheels; with the spikes on the tires. If you took a spill, you really didn't want to get ran over...

Well, that shot brings back fond memories of my youth!

We would do the same thing but be towed with snowmobiles. Uphill was always a challenge, as was when the snow had an ice crust on top. Sometimes the ice/snow crust was 1 1/2" thick. The skis would often get under the crust making turning much more difficult. And of course, it hurt a little more if/when you fell, especially at speed.

Thank you Jager, for a few moments, I was ten years old again.

Best Regards,

Al

Al-- Happy to take you back, buddy ^^

Although I was a 6-year-old in MN on snowmobiles, this is more like me at ten:

I've heard stories of people ice racing VW Beetles with two parking brakes rigged up (left-side and right-side). E-brake turning a rear-engine car on ice must bring a special sort of grin on ones face.

Is that a young Ricky Bobby in that photo?

Sorry Jäger,

No Pcar content.

We head north to Maine (no speed limits ;-) ) for our winter fun. I run two sleds, a small displacement 2-stroke for the tight stuff, and a larger, longer sled for the distance days.

Regards,

Al
