Just a little act of kindness to a kid can last a lifetime.
So true. Jay Leno did a brief speaking bit at the Monterey Historics this year and recounted a story about his letting a kid that was eying his Lamborghini sit in the car. He said he did it because someone once did it for him when he was about 6 and it sparked his lifelong interest in cars. He encouraged everyone there to do the same.

My three year old sounds like the kid in the Beck Spyder. I has probably a dozen Porsche Hot Wheels. I took him to the Museum a few weeks ago, and he loved checking out all the Porsches.

This stuff puts a real smile one my face.

My 10 year old has a fascination with Lambo's. He's got some die cast models and always spoke about saving his money to "buy a Lamborghini when I'm older". (I know it's sacrilegious on this forum!)

About two months ago a mate of mine, who knows my son has a penchant for Lambo's, came around in a Gallardo.
Asks him if he would like to sit in it.
This kid is smiling ear to ear!
He then starts it up and takes him for a 10 minute drive.

He's still smilling!

Huge kudos for this thread ...just awesome!
And not just for it's "smile value," but for the bigger truth that we all have been influenced in life by those seemingly insignificant moments when no one else was noticing, yet forever shaped us into who we are today. Let us all wield that great responsibility with care and generosity.

I can only hope that at least one of my own will want to share the Porsche love when the right time comes ...like that DE when they hit 16

This thread reminds me of this ad. I guess most of you guys have seen it. The innocence of a kid about a Porsche.

This is probably the best thread on RL I've ever read.

My personal story...

I was probably 5-6 years old when I remember my first encounter with a 911. My Dad pointed it out, said the engine was in the back, and was telling me about other details about the car. It was red (had to have been Guards Red) Carrera coupe at the local park, and I just remember that back end... the tail lamp/reflector that wrapped around the rear fender along the bumper line to the other rear fender with the iconic "PORSCHE" square in the middle, and of course all the curves... nothing looked like that in the 80s *I didn't know (at the time) that it was designed in the 60s*. It was almost 10 years later that my Dad bought his first Porsche... a 1980 911 SC. Ever since that first "memorable" encounter with a Porsche, I was hooked.

I put a couple hundred miles on my new 993 the day I took delivery.

Stopped for coffee and a lady next to me lets a couple of little boys out of her mini van. One of them wipes the dust around on the hood in an admiring way. There was no time for me to stop it, so I just smiled.

I oblige my wife's lady friends when they ask if their boy can have a ride. I try to bring them back grinning, not shaking at the knees.

A couple of months ago at Cars and Coffee, I noticed a 10-12 year old boy carefully studying several cars- Ferraris, Porsches, 240Z, Vettes. He made his way to the Elise, walked around it slowly, peered into the engine bay and the interior just as he had done with all the others, stepped back, looked up and over his left shoulder to his father standing beside him while starting to point and said calmly, but with great certainty, "This one, Dad".

That made my day!

I take my son around the garage, he points at things and I tell him what they are. Bicycle, another bicycle, another bicycle, bicycle wheels, snowboards, pictures of Porsches, mommy's Porsche, Alex's (his) Porsche, radio, Porsche wheels, tools, ... . He loves to touch the crest on the hood and reach through the wheels to touch the brake rotors. I keep telling him, "If you stay out of trouble this will all be yours." He always walks over to the 993 and points at the door handle. He usually gets to sit inside.

If you want to see him smile and run ask him if he wants to go in the garage.

I'm at a race meeting at Llandow in South Wales and all the Porsches are lined up along the fence between the paddock and the circuit. The sun is shining brightly and it's lunchtime so me and the boys are all sat along the fence, drinking our tea, eating sandwiches and generally having a good time.

Next thing we know we spot two gorgeous blondes trundling through the paddock, kids in tow with dad's out front admiring the cars; the bottom line is that they were both jaw droppingly attractive, so naturally (with us all being the definitive Alpha-male type) our milf radar was working overtime. Sure enough, said milfs and kids go down the line until they reach my 993RS-R, whereupon the kids make a bee-line for the open windows to have a look inside. All the boys are quiet at this point, simply enjoying the view.

Anyway, one of the kids (young lad of 8 or so) really takes a shine to my motor, so without further ado I get up from my seat, open the driver's door and offer to strap him in. Kid asks mum if ok, she says yes in the sweetest local Welsh accent you could imagine, so I dutifully oblige. (Not daft you see, the best way to interest a milf is to show an interest in her kids first - it's all about the "cluck" instinct). The kid's happy as Larry, so I show him the ropes then leave him to it, returning to my seat to savour the sight of mum photographing him through the passenger window.

Next thing, the kid's older sister wanders up, sees little brother in the car and asks mum if she can sit in it on the other side (obviously this was in the days when I did not have to try hard and would carry the extra weight of a spare Recaro). No problem, says I (graciously accepting all the nudges and winks from the boys), help yourself...... at which point our angel in white opens the passenger door and promptly asks:
"Oh, do you mind if I hold your helmet??"

Suffice to say, once the boys had finished falling off the fence and spurting out our their drinks, it did not take long before I got dubbed the "helmetmeister", a nickname which stuck with me for quite some time.
