Default A question on tyre size for a NB C2

Hi, I have been running Continental SportContact 2's since I've had the car and have no complaints other than the price.

I have a 6K plus kilometer trip coming up in the new year so it's time for some new tyres.

I am having trouble finding tyres the correct size, I run 205/50/17's on the front and 255/40/17's on the back on MY02 17 inch rims.

There aren't any 255/40/17's SportContact 2's in the country and was thinking another brand perhaps but am finding if I get a match on the size for the front then I don't get a match on the back and vica versa.

So the question is, how much can I deviate from the original size, say in width and depth? And if I have a different size on one axel then do I have to make a similar change on the other axel. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

my02 17" rims???
I have my02 18" rims.
225/285 is a great combo for the my02 18" rim and it is what I run on the street.

on 17's a better match for the 255's in the rear are 225/45 fronts. They balance the car quite nicely and they are the same diameter.

+1, 225/45 & 255/40 x17 are a good match on 7 & 9" wheels, you should be able to get theses sizes for Conti DW, or BS RE11 or Dunlop Direzzas or a dozen other manufacturers

Thanks for the info, exactly what I was looking for. The 205/50's are proving problematic to find so the 225/45's sound good.

OK - thought I'd bring this post back to life. I don't know what the problem is in Australia but I am having all sorts of problems sourcing tyres. We don't appear to have the range or brands available here.

I can find rears or fronts, or none.

I've tried Continental, Pirelli, Sumitomo, Bridgestone, Michelin, Yokahama....

I have 17" MY02 wheels.

I can't find 205/50/17's and 255/40/17's.

What tyres will fit please, front and back?

TIA

You'll find it hard to source particular tires in Aus. I could not find any Mich PS2's in the whole country. Call Nick at the tirerack and get him to quote you up what you need. It will cost about 1/2 the price of what you pay in Aus, and will be delivered to your door step in a week.
