997 Pricing Help
I tried posting this on the 997 Forum and got two responses. Can anyone here give me some help? The 997 would be a spring/summer/fall DD. I didn't mention this on the 997 Forum.
I am considering buying a 2008 997 C2 in addition to my 993. I was hoping I could get some pricing help - maybe a reasonable min/max retail number? The car is privately owned (second owner) and is excellent cosmetically. Never hit or molested, but I would PPI nevertheless.
The car is located in Upstate NY - not the hottest market for this car if it was sold locally.
Details:
- 34,000 miles
- Black/black
- Standard leather
- 12 way power seat - driver
- Xenon
- SS exhaust
- Self dimming mirrors
- Heated seats
- 19" turbo wheels
- New Michelin PS2 tires
- Sport Chrono
- Extended Navi - PCM 3.0
Any help would be appreciated. I know the owner and have driven the car. I am not expecting to steal the car, but am willing to pay a fair price - we are friends and would like it to stay that way.
Thanks in advance for the help.
Go to eBay. Search for all 2008 997s. Click on Completed listings. See what sold (green price) vs. what's not sold (red price). That's the truest market barometer. Supplement it with this search: https://www.google.com/search?hl=en&...w=1280&bih=681
That's give you plenty of data to go by.
You can also go to the Porsche NA dealer inventory website and sort cars based on year, model, option etc. The prices will be the upper end of the pricing spectrum and you can expect that private party pricing to be $5+ lower. When I purchased my 2008 C2S one year ago, that relationship on price held true.
The 32K mileage on the car you are interested in will bring the pricing down. even though it has lots of very nice options; the C2 tends to be about $8-10K less than an C2S. I think low to mid $50s would make sense if it was perfect. Could be lower given the end of the season.

I sold my 2007 Carrera S in spring 2010 with 7k miles and PRISTINE condition for $55k and that was all I could get for it. It really was a cream puff and the interior was beautifully appointed in $17,000 of two-tone full leather and other options.
A base 997.1 Carrera with only standard leather and 30k miles should be in the $40's, and that's for the best of the best examples.

IMHO, it's high, at lest $5k, but more likely it's a $46ishk car.
However, if it's the color you want, the options you want, & the overall condition you want, it might be worth it to pay a little bit more. But I would not go $55, unless it was a S!
Thanks for the responses and (Mike) the pricing help. It is much appreciated. I am going to pass on the car - it's not really the color I want anyway, so it would have to be a great deal to buy.
DB, that is a great idea and if I was in LA, I would do it..... However, my daughter Michelle lives near Santa Monica and I'm sure she would be glad to drive it for a few months..... But she can be a little rough on vehicles.

I agree with what Dave has said. My only exception is that the used car market was in the crapper thru Fall of 2010. The used car market improved significantly in 2011 supported by average auction prices. But at this time of year, with the Porsche market now entering the low price season, you should be able to get a great price. For MY 2008, i would say close to $60 for an exceptional S (low mileage and nice options); close to $50 for an exceptional "non S". Dealers will be selling those same cars for $5+k more with CPO.
