If you need xtra power just buy a turbo - you won't have to worry about many cars "passing" you

I have a CX-9 and a 993 C4S. The Mazda is 0-60 in low to mid 7's seconds. Our cars are much faster. Did you have a loaf of bread from your grocery bag stuck under the gas pedal???

At the end of the day, would you rather have a CX9 or a 993 in your garage?

You guys miss where he said it's a Tip? Look at the numbers. The tip costs over a second to 60 and around 2 to 100...
Get a 6 speed and try again.

Somehow "Mazda CX-9" doesn't quite have the ring that "Porsche 911" has.

I'm pleased overall with my 993, even 15 years on. Try saying that about a Mazda CX-9 in 2026.

I wish I could SC or 9M my car - but I live in CA.

It's always fun to out-accellerate or out corner a brand new car with my mostly stock 17 year old car. Its usually a muscle car or ricer. I got the jump on a motorcycle the other day. It was a small-ish one, but he was shocked that I kept up with him.

No I don't race as much as this post sounds... I just like to go fast occasionally (mostly on curvy freeway ramps and such - our cars have an amazing amount of grip), and I get a kick out of the challenges from other drivers.

Exactly.

A co-worker with a new chipped Accord V6 brags about running some Porsches and beating them, but only since I bought one.

Some thoughts...
  • What makes him think the Porsche driver was even racing?
  • He should ask the Porsche driver if he would be willing to trade. Yeah right.

Maybe he should take his car to the track to find out.

This is in US on public roads, right? Tell me you leave somewhere far away. Far, far, far away.

My wife could not stand her Mazda CX-7 for any longer than 2 1/2 years and 40K miles. She had an 09, the 2.3 Turbo, 6 speed AUTO slush box with one of the most intrusive stability/yaw/fun AWD control systems I've ever encountered.

Great motor, lousy tranny and mileage, and a wisker under 4000 lbs.

She just picked up Saturday, a 2012 Mini Countryman S ALL4. It's down about 50 hp to the Mazda, but over 800 lbs lighter. It's a hoot

nile13,

I live across the pacific where a 96 993 costs about 60k usd that's what I paid for mine with 35k kilometers. I wish I could afford a turbo but they are scarce and the only one that caught my eye with decent mileage was a bit over 100k usd.

At this point am still not sold on a SC as am still enjoying the 993 for what it is. I rarely open her up and redline her so, bout 280-300 hp is good for now. Though spending maybe 10k usd for about 80added hp sounds like a good deal to me. Again my main consideration is the FUN factor that SC owners are all raving about.

Tip still beats the Mazda by a second 0-60. You just gotta squash that pedal!

Good. I'm of very low opinion of street racing and street racers.

Somebody needs to buy an econobox for leaving such unqualified responses to an otherwise quite entertaining subject. Why is it that this person always has to leave his negativ remarks on just about everthing out here.
Porsche cars are fun to drive fast. Where and what you do is up to each owner so accept it and move on, buy a Gremlin or something.

My buddy's mom had a Gremlin X (Levi's Edition) with the V8 when I was a kid. It was pretty fast!

I have even lower opinion of idiots. Go jump off the cliff somewhere. Away from other people. If you do not understand what a car is and what danger it presents to others you do not deserve to own a Porsche (or to drive, period).

Do you drive on the autobahn above speed limit weaving through traffic? No, your underwear would turn brown if you did that in Bavaria and saw a polizei. At least you have some bits of autobahn speed limit free (not for long thanks to idiots). In Germany where you live, apparently, there will be 20 calls to police if anyone saw you doing what OP described of Mazda driver.
