Default Duck?

I know it is a matter of personal taste....but.....

I love the ducktail. I have wanted to change for a while but am wondering if it is one of those upgrades that lose their "appeal" once they are on the car for a while. Every upgrade I have done has been great (for me) so far.

Plus, car is pretty "flashy" already with the gold BBS wheels and I don't want to go over the top and lose respect for myself!

So, for those with a ducktail (993), have you been happy or regretful?
Opinions? Here is a picture of my car as it sits.

I say, if you like it, go for it. I would only suggest, buy a cheap engine lid off eBay and modify/paint it. Then you can always return to the original.

personally, I love the ducktail look.

That Project Battleship thread-the dude in the UK-who built a mock-up of a ducktail that would accept a 993 grill...really had me amped.

He posted up a deal for someone who had a split grill-I was the first to respond. I would get a ready to paint ducktail for dirt cheap, as long as I took hi quality pics of it on the car for his promotional use.

The thought of a ducktail that allowed a split grill to be installed in it-makes me wet STILL!

While he did follow up with me-he had the bird flu, other issues...the deal never materialized.

I say go for it! Follow the advice of those who have gone before you here-regarding the best fit/finish one available out there now. Save your stock grill, so you can always return.

Good luck!

I've been thinking about this recently. I have the split grill and Ruf spoiler module, which I'd then be able to sell. But I'd need to find a really well-fitting duck tail.

Let me know on the Ruf spoiler module.

And, I dig the Duck.

The cars I've seen here with ducktails have made me buy one. My aorokit I rear spoiler has always been a little much for me and ducktail will tone things down and provide a classic look. With my front splitters, they kind of give the look of the sculpted body work on a 1973 S. I think the ducktail will go nicely with the front look.
To be installed. I promise!

To duck, or not to duck: that is the question:
Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to mod
The original and perfect of Porsche design,
Or to take wrench against a 1996 993...

so, I like the duck
not sure how it would go with the wheels
we need a good Photoshop!

full disclosure: I don't have a duck. But I know a guy who does

1. Ducktail looks great on the 993s.

2. Airflow into the engine is not diminished, maybe even increased with the duck. My former VRAM intake was cool to the touch even after driving on a hot summer day in TX.

3. Ducktail is 15lbs lighter than standard tail.

4. It's pretty cheap.

5. You can swap from duck to standard or back in 15 min.

I'm still very happy with my duck. It suits the car, it's lighter, it never fails to get complements, I'm often asked if it's factory, and to me at least, I think the back end looks wider with it. Go for it.

I am not going back anytime soon.
I have my stock decklid wrapped in a blanket for safe keeping. Like stated above, you can switch back at anytime.
Let me know if you are considering this as I have connections and can get you a deal on a duck.

That's funny, I have had a couple of people ask me if it was a widebody

I've had the duck on for over a year now and still love it. Like others have said, it is easy to swap, and my intentions were to change it as the mood hit me. The RS tail is still hanging on the garage wall waiting its turn.

Get it. There are plenty of stockish 993s out there, with the ducktail, yours will be more personal.

When you get bored of it, it's an 1 hr swap back to stock.
