Talking One Happy Nerd with Shiny Tail Pipe

Now I’ve been called many things from my wife, but this is a first. I was sitting in my workshop polishing my tail pipe and I guess I was pretty determined. After an hour and a half of polishing with metal polishers and lots of rags, I had pretty good results. Check out the before and after shots.

I tested out 3 products and ended up using ¼ can of Blue Magic polish cream followed by a couple of coats with Blue Away. Both products work but I used Blue Away sparingly because it was expensive.

Before and after:

I couldn't polish my tail pipe for that long.

How do you remove the tail pipe?
I just assumed they were welded on.

Remove with a 6mm hex bit or key.

Much easier and quicker if you can get a buffer or polished.

Damn.... nice job. Every time you walk past the rear of your 993 you'll notice those. Well worth the effort.

no responses......?????

I could and have and will do again....

my FD SS wide ovals look like new after a good hard rub. Too bad I have gone to the dark-side with new ceramic black velvet wide ovals and my SS wide ovals are sitting on a shelf in my garage along with my polished my02s.

So it looks like 'Polishing my tail pipe..." will become the accepted metaphor for...well, you know what, amongst Rennlisters.

I prefer to have mine polished for me, rather than do it myself.

Typically brings out a more impressive result....

only real difference being... one you start out with the polishing compound in your hand, the other you end up with the polishing compound in your hand.

As tolerant as I am... I prefer not to have my tailpipe polished. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

You guys crack me up. Maybe my wife had some hidden meaning when she caught me polishing the tail pipe! I will say though it is definitely very gratifying. You will have to decide what works for you .

I was going to order myself new ovals but decided to see what I can do with the 16 year old pipes. Not bad for $20 worth of polish. It looks almost brand new.
Now if the weather is nice tomorrow, I will give her a wax job…..

Al, they look great!

Now as to cleaning one's pipe, I always say it's my pipe and I'll clean it as often as I damned well want!
