The things one learns on Rennlist . . .
Note to self, don't load frunk with pea gravel and then hit a . . .![ducking](https://rennlist.com/forums/graemlins/icon107.gif)
The strength of the wheel rim to absorb its share of a +3000 lb car when used as a spare and the give of the tire (un-inflated) on the rim, when mounted in the frunk wheel well could provide modest dissipation of energy, but I suspect much more transmission of the energy. And this is all based on the hold down mechanism not failing under the impact and thus just deflecting the tire out of the wheel well (and the equation).
Then one must consider what type of frontal impact? Is the impact on a fender corner, across the entire front end going straight on into a flat immovable object (wall), into and under the backend of a semi-trailer skimming the frunk, or into a tree / utility poll missing both fenders cutting right down the middle? To name just a few variables.
My takeaway, best advice, do one's best to just not hit anything (spare or no spare).
