Here is an interesting video that I came across while watching a PCA video on youtube. As it turns out the person that posted the video is also a rennlister.

^^ Awesome.

I am just about to pour a new garage floor and I am on the fence about putting in a recessed pit for a mid-rise.

BTW - The garage in the video is also featured in Great Garage Makeovers magazine that I picked up a couple weeks back.

Looks great, its a thing of beauty, and a great video, LOVE the music! You can't beat it from an aesthetics standpoint, but what about functionality? It would seem to me that when the car is lifted and your working under it the pit would be more of a hindrance and a place to drop things into or fall into yourself while trying to work. To each his own but I think I would prefer an ugly two post mid rise lift in an ugly garage that is all about functionality and having adequate room beneath the car as well as to the entire underside of the car and no black hole to drop stuff into. Seems a setup like in the video is more about looks than usefulness. Just my opinion... It's cool and beautiful and looks like a nice garage, but I think I would prefer ugly and useful.

do a high lift conversion on the door...essentially relocating the door track just below the ceiling. It's a pretty straight forward DIY, with the extra parts.

Just Google hi-lift door conversion, I think the company I bought the pieces from is called DIY Garage Door Company-or something like that.

You'll need to convert to a torsion spring set-up instead of the standard long type springs that are parallel with the track- need another opener also.

Good luck

This is the unit I had installed on my garage door. I actually installed in on the old door when they
re-located it into its new position. Completely eliminates the overhead track.
I order the kit, but had it professionally installed. Very happy.

Can anyone tell me who the Rennlister is for the video above? I have want to inquire as to the type/specs on lift used. I am building my garage now and will be ready to pour the floor shortly.

I tried to do a group buy back in Jan 2009. I found a killer deal on the lift at $1,195 plus $190 shipping from LA to Seattle.

https://rennlist.com/forums/993-foru...the-fence.html

I pounded Google searching for suppliers and called a bunch of them to get deals. The prices listed were about the same as they are today but I kept going until I got the deal. They only had 3 ...or 6 of them. I do not think anyone else jumped on it at the time.

Love the lift and it is sturdy and have had zero issues with it.

Do it while you are in the process of pouring your new slab.

I have an existing floor that I will be cutting to pour a recessed pit for a scissors lift, either this fall or early next spring.

Having to drive onto stacked 2 x 12s to clear the lift would wear thin after a while.

recessed spot for lift, and hi-lift conversion for the door...lots of room to lift a little 993.

Now, lifting a pick up or taller vehicle will certainly have it's limitations...but not our tiny cars.
