I got an Atlas TD6MR from Greg Smith Eqpt. IIRC it was approx $1500 delivered. Perfect for the limited use I put it thru, decent build quality. Certainly not the higher quality of the Bendpac, which I believe is more a commercial quality piece of eqpt.

Price, as well as the reputation of Greg Smith eqpt, gave me the confidence I was making the right choice. Definately, a GREAT tool to have available.

I'd be curious to see those scale numbers. A truck has very little weight over the rear half. But since curiosity killed the cat, I just threw it on my corner balance scales. 2002 2500HD 4x4 Extended cab short box....4060lbs.

Must be + a full crew cab? Crazy to think it would add that much weight over the 6.0L gas extended cab. Of course, if it is newer than 2002, as we know all vehicles are getting heavier and heavier somehow, LOL

Correct - mine is a 2011 full crew cab short box diesel. Must account for the weight difference - sorry, I assumed yours would be about the same.

Marc
p.s. to the OP - sorry for a little hi-jack.

Great thread. I have the Bend Pak and a few years back, everyone was raving about the BendPak and the Greg Smith. Of late, looks like the MaxJax (can buy from Costco) is a reliable and inexpensive 2 post lift...

The two post sounds great - but does one need to drill to anchor it into the floor? With the scissor lifts, that is not a requirement (as long as the floor is perfectly level)....

Thanks,
-Blake

The need to open the doors if the car is in the air may be a consideration as well....Seems to me there is little preventing most work with either one.

Great thread, guys! Time to go shopping and compare prices!

BTW: If anyone wants to start a group buy on a scissor, you can probably count me in.

I am shopping for a lift and will get in on a group buy. Given how the market tanked recently, there may be deals to be had in the near future.

Not sure if I want a Bend Pak or Maxjax yet... The quick adjustment arms looks easier to balance the car's weight on a max jax. I have a GL320 which needs to go on the lift too and wonder which is better.

Does anyone here have one of these and keep it stored in the garage but not in the parking space and simply move it into place when needed? How difficult is it? Are they easily stood up, to take up as little room as possible? I have a small one-car garage and would like to have one, but space is a concern...

My car is too low to drive over the Bend-Pak so I build a removable wooden frame to drive up on and I just park over the lift.

With the car in the air, I can remove the frame for full access (ie. if I want to roll something under the car like an oil catch drum).

Yup, parking over the lift is no big deal. You aren't moving it around as you need it. Yes it does roll.....after you move it once, you will decide that is foolish and leave it where it sits. It is still 850lbs of metal. I just build ramps out of 2x12 and did not connect the left and right ramps together. They are heavy enough and do not move ever. Plus, then it is easy enough to move them out of the garage to clean the floor.

I had a cayenne S on it today with the rear bar out doing a driveshaft......honey badger didn't care at all.

I also considered the MaxJax lift after reviewing the BP and such. Neighbor has the BP and was going to sell it and split the cost of the MaxJax and just make mounting holes in each garage.

Do you have one? How easy is it to move around? How long it take to put together? Any complaints?

It is easy enough to move around that my wife would have no problem moving it. The only complaint that I would have with it is that I should've had something like this years ago - all the time I've spent over the years laying on my back on concrete floors... this makes working on the car the enjoyable hobby that it should be! Here's the thread detailing my install
