Smile Panamera thoughts

I know this is the 993 page but my neighbor is looking to buy a new Pan 4S. She doesn't know much about cars and is looking for guidance from me. I've read most posts over on the RL 'Pan' sight but am seeking more knowledge from u guys. She wants to buy new and only wants the 4S. What else should she be looking for?

Thx!

I don't know what engine complement is available with the 4S, but the Panamera I drove recently had a 6 cylinder in it, and it was way too sluggish for my tastes - you floor it, and nothing happens. Even if she is a conservative driver, I can't see the 6 being desirable save for gas mileage, perhaps.

The Panamera and 4 are 6 cylinder, S and 4S (and turbo) are 8. My father in law has a 4S, personally I enjoy driving, but it's far from the Porsche were used to... I second the Audi a7 as a legitimate option as well. Wish her luck!

It would be a tough choice between the A7 and 4S- love my A8 and the A7 is drop dead beautiful in my book ( a little Aston in rear 3/4 view). Face it, the Panamera ain't beautiful, but it's road manners will probably be more sporty than the A7. Is she a motorhead or just wants a nice quick German sedan??

Can't go wrong either way. BTW, I've heard from people who have driven the 6 it is not a dog, and is a relative value.

A different car. For the same outlay, she could have a beautiful low miles 2-yr old Mercedes sedan AND a 993 Turbo, and she would save tens of thousands on depreciation. Spending 100k+ on a brand new Porsche that isn't even good looking is insanity.

forgot to add, I recently drove a Panamera for 2 days and was very disappointed in it.

^ That would be me, thank you.

The Panamera was invented for the German businessman who is in a hurry to get from Frankfurt to Hamburg on his own schedule, without messing with security and airline food.

He or she can even be chauffeured in the back seat and get some work done.

For fun back road twisties driving, I can't see subjecting any passenger(s) to that level of handling.

She is VERY wealthy....money not really an object. Wish I could say the same.

The looks are growing on me. If I wanted a performance luxury 4 door, I would consider one.

Hmm, does she need a male companion to go with whatever car she buys? I could, um, like, wash and wax it for her...just a thought.

I realize the looks are subjective and owners of a 993/997, etc., will scoff at a Panamera (just like they did with the 928s), but I was able to use one for a day (V8) and was very impressed. Not everyone wants a tiny sports car and if one is in the market for a 4 door GT performance type of car with great comfort, the Panamera is everything the 928 had hoped to be and more.

And in the end, I think it's great that we have so many good choices of decent cars out there now. Life would be a bit dismal if we all had to drive the same thing. I only wish I had a small fortune of excess cash and a 6 car garage.

Yuk. I had a hard time getting in and out of the rear seats, and I'm not obese or disabled. If she wants a four door, I would check out ingress/egress from the rear seats before buying. We have been happy with our many A6s, both Avants and sedans.

I did a quick test drive of a Panamera V8 and was extremely impressed with its manners and speed. I'm not an admirer of the looks, however and think the Audis are way prettier. However, (the smaller) Audis all seem to have reliability issues, and Porsche seems to get that right. Not sure how the bigger Audis fare.

Pan4S is an insane ride. I don't think I've driven a sedan that comes close. Power is endless and the cars is so smooth and carves so well you don;t realize how fast you are going. Almost dangerous.
