Default 993 On Track

I spent the last four days at Mosport doing a joint track event with NNJR PCA. My 944 turbo track car is in need of a motor rebuild, so it was up to the 993 to pull track duty. I was a little hesitant to take the car for 4 days of track duty in extreme temperatures (apparently Sunday was an all-time record here in TO), but had no choice. The point here- I am continually amazed at the abilities of our 993s; I did a total of nearly 7 hours on track over the weekend, most of which is spent at full throttle, and the car ran like a top; used only a single tank of fuel per day, was able to keep up with many newer 996/7s, and did not miss a beat. I had many owners of newer, more valuable P-cars approach me throughout the weekend to share how they loved the 993 and felt it was the 911 at its finest. After the weekend I've just had, I totally agree. Poseur photo attached.

I should also add that 993s were well represented.....I would estimate there were at least a dozen

Would love to get up there someday. Have a friend who's East Coast based for most of this year, and she's dragging her E36 BMW to a race up there soon.

Funny how, in chasing the unicorn, the 993 stories come out regularly from the water cooled set. (But really, I remember the torsion bar era stories coming from the guys who moved up to then-new 993s.)

Default Since 2001

I have been tracking my 993 since 2001, much to the dismay of wifey. So far all I have had to do repair wise is replace the brass synchros with steel synchros. I could have stayed with brass, but the box was open so why not.

Here is the irony, you guys do a track event and you get 10 993 cars. In SoCal, we do a track event and get one street legal* 993 car, that would be me. I do have a few mods, BUT, the car will pass California Smog.

Strut tower connector
Quick Release Steering wheel device
MOMO wheel
IQ3 digital dash (Being installed)
PSS9 (Rebuilt in 2011)
TRG Sways
Tarrett Drop Links
ERP Toe links (Rebuilding them with new ends and rubber boots)
ERP camber links (Brand new, being installed)
ERP camber plates
Ruf secondary oil cooler
GT2 front splitters
Aero Kit 1B rear spoiler (Being installed)
993RS side skirts
18" MY 2002 996 wheels (2 sets)
NT-01, or Hoosier, or Hankook Z 14 (Still testing, BUT Hoosier R6 is my preference.)
Pagid pads, Yellow front, Black rear
Heigo bolt in cage
RS Tranny mount
RS Engine mounts
Race seats (2)
993 RS carpet kit
993 RS door panels
FD Stage 1 mufflers
FD Platinum rod (NLA)
SSK (Installed by Darin)
Fabspeed 200 cell cats with X pipe set up
Stock engine and tranny, other than steel synchros
Air intake snorkel from 993 TT car
Stock brakes (Also from Darin)
No radio, no speakers, stock carpet all removed
Air blower in engine compartment removed
Cool Shirt cooler
2.5 Lb Halon on a BK seat mount.
Schroth Belts
New Plug wires
Dyno at 245 to the rear wheels

Car weighs 2,824 dry. I have to get it to 3,205...that's easy, just ad me fully loaded at 260 + 19 gallons of gas.

Default Thanks to Fabspeed...

Alex's note jogged my memory...please note that for the past 5+ years, I have relied on Fabspeed for advice and product for my 993. I have purchased:
-Supercups
-Cat Bypass pipes
-X pipes with 200 cell cats

All three product have a superb fit and finish, and were priced fairly compared to what others have sold. The X pipes and 200 cell cats are incredible, great sound and performance. I love this set up!

But there is another side to the coin. Fabspeed has a way of coming out with new products that create dissatisfaction with what you currently have, Marketing 1A I suppose.

Now I am lusting after the 993 MAXFLO Header Muffler Kit WITH HEAT $2,695...what a beautiful product, and especially neat if I can get a center pipe outlet...I can pretend I have a Cup Car I need to find out if my current 200 cell cats will fit on this set up.

Thanks Fabspeed for all the help over the years.

Note, no affiliation or compensation from Fabspeed; they just make really great stuff!

Sorry, not trying to hijack thread, but Martin, where did you source your RS door panels? I've been looking but haven't found them.

btw... I get the same reaction from water cooled owners. I lust after a GT3RS or Cup car, but I think that i would keep my 993 even if I were fortunate enough to acquire one some day. Simply the best ever!

I have their sport headers without heat on blackie, Martin. They go into one side of the turbos and AWE test pipes come out the other. No cats or mufflers to get in the way. Rick DeMan was most impressed with the design (PMS GT2), quality and fit of these. They saved a ton of weight in the right place and the sound is ... intoxicating.

Martin, your car is exactly where I'm headed with mine. I'm pulling out the radio this weekend in the latest step to save weight. Do you have pictures you can share? I'm particulary interested in interior shots. Thanks!
