Default Turbo in a NA 993

Has anybody swapped their NA engine and dropped in a turbo engine?

If so ... How hard and what is needed?

Thanks

Yeah, like that piece of $het Yellow bird by someone named roof.

All kidding aside, it will fit right into place with a tail to fit the intercooler.
This set up is Rufs claim to fame.

Shadow, I'd suggest two things:

1) Also ask your question on the 993 Turbo Forum
2) Sell your NA 993, and buy a 993 Turbo.....if you really want a turbo.....may be cheaper in the end

A good one? I'd guess upwards of $25K. Just a WAG.

Ok ...there are 2 on eBay around $20,000 with miles from 30k and 47k.

My thought is a supercharger will cost $10k to do it right. So why not sell my engine with 35k miles and buy a turbo 993 engine. Then I have factory turbo power for $10-$15k more.

Shadow,

It certainly can be done... and has. However, don't fall in love with the idea of "factory turbo power" because the value of your car will not be enhanced. If you really MUST have more HP, and can't bear the thought of changing cars (the very best idea), then also consider the Protomotive Turbo kit as well as the TPC supercharger route.

One other thing I'll point out... the 993TT has quite a bit of torque and uses a very strong pressure plate clamping force to contain it. The 993TT comes with a vey complex power assisted clutch system to make this manageable. Your car will not have the power assist, and this will get very tiring on your left leg.

You'll also need a 1996 or 1997 Turbo DME. That's another $2K. Wire harness, too????
