Help updating a 964 to a 993 body
hello,,, I am updating my 91 964 cabriolet to a 993 turbo body and need some help / advice with the front fender adaption,,, the top of the front clip, ya know where the fender bolts on all the way along the top, next to the hood seal, are a different shape on the 964 so some guy that didn't know what he was doing butchered the tops trying to make them fit with the 993 fenders, so I need to start over cut off the very top of the clip on each side and weld in 993 uppers? I can't find anyone who has a donor car to cut these off of, anyone out there updated an early 911 to a 993 with any suggestions? the car is almost done except for this and it's driving me crazy thanks ronnie

just my opinion of course but I agree. why destroy a 964? if you want a 993 get one - sell the 964. meanwhile you are already too far along to stop now it appears. sorry I'm no help on the parts or advice you are looking for.

+1. The parts will never fit together as well as a factory 993. Plus, it will be extremely difficult to sell if ever you need to. The 964 is an amazing looking car in its own right, why cut it up?

Another don't do it here! You'll end up with a car that nobody wants which will cost you as much or more than selling your car and buying a 993. Check out the "993" 911 on eBay with the Chevy motor in it. For what that guy dropped on that car, he could have bought a nice 993 Turbo. Now he is stuck with a car he can't sell for half his original asking price after two years!

Giving you the benefit of the doubt and assuming the 964 was horribly disfigured in an accident - and in need of major surgery anyway before you took the cutting torch to it...
I'd say go in the other direction. It's more palatable to take the modern underpinnings of a 964 and make it look like a '73 long-hood (cool retro looks with modern technology - maybe even some lightweight panels) than to make it a 993 wannabe. Just IMHO.
Good luck with your project... sorry, can't shed any light on how to solve the fit problem.

I have a hard enough time with folks installing wheels on a Porsche that were not originally installed (or a factory option) - let alone something like this. But that's just me.
Plus: As much as we all love our 993s (and we really do), it is hard to argue with the fact that the original 911 front end is the inconic 911 shape.
If you can reverse the work, I would - and, if you love tinkering with body panels, how about an America Roadster (even that would trouble most Porschephiles that I know).
