I think it's an LA thing. Never see them up here. Except the set on my previous car which was purchased in LA.

Someone say chromed? (Circa '80s during the slopenose craze, though this photo is from when a $100 set of 7s & 9s became some track wheels in the mid '90s.)

There are a lot of chrome rims in Los Angeles. A lot of dealers install chrome wheels on their inventory and charge a pretty penny for the "upgrade".

Must be something to do with the proximity to Mexico.

I've heard that the plating process weakens the aluminum. Any truth in this? And no, I do not have chrome wheels nor do I have any interest in purchasing any, just curious.

I have a deep disdain for chrome wheels.

But they seem to be just as much a "New Jersey" or "Miami" kind of thing - as a "West Coast" thing.

True, but this thread just shows that false sweeping generalizations are alive and well on the East Coast and everywhere else.

Look around, and you'll see that bad taste in everything is everywhere. Another sweeping generalization

Goofball:

I totally agree with your comment about generalizations. If fact, I was going to say, "since we are engaging in vast generalizations,"....

In my opinion, the comment about CA's "proximity to Mexico" is another particularly unbecoming example.

This.

These wheels have a very high crack (failure) rate. Most cracks = ruined.

I think these are around $1,000 a piece +/- new even at WE's rate. Call and talk to them, I bet they'll be straight up about the cracking/failures.

Here is a set out this way for $500.

....sorry, not sure what evil spirit just possessed by fingers while typing. Funny, but I was doing a search to see if I could find some of the quallity CHROME'ed commentary to see if I'd gotten close, but couldn't find the user name in search. Guess he got the full boot?

Try 'CROME'. Plenty of classic bytes and great for a laugh.
