Wheel rant
OK are you guys on the West Coast still doing the chrome wheel thing? I mean, I know it was huge out there in the 90s. But I thought it was over.
I'm looking for a set of wheels. So I troll fleabay. It seems like all the MY'02s are being bought up by LA Wheel and Tire and another wheel place in Santa Ana, and then CHROMED! Someone make it stop. They are ruining the wheels!
Secondary rant: Why do people think that a scratched up set of cheap Italian twist knockoffs are worth $1000?????
Back to my coffee now....

To each his own I suppose, but for me, when I see wheels originally designed to have a painted finish re-finished in chrome, it's kind of like seeing a bad boob job...They really stand out, but somehow just don't feel natural.

To answer the second question - it's called "Porsche tax" and we all pay it on every part.
The first one - i think they are 'polished" now, not chromed. Look about the same to me as I don't like shiny things. A polished lip is nice, but not the whole blingy wheel. Than again, it's a personal taste.

No they're chromed...check on ebay for 18 Porsche wheels. There are bunches and bunches that say; "Newly Chromed."
I'm guessing that it must be easier to chrome them than re-finish them with paint...

....sorry, not sure what evil spirit just possessed by fingers while typing. Funny, but I was doing a search to see if I could find some of the quallity CHROME'ed commentary to see if I'd gotten close, but couldn't find the user name in search. Guess he got the full boot?

No way Chrome belongs on anything this side of a '76 Caddy ...this from a guy who has been on the Left Coast since the 70s. And even if only polished, the look is still horrid for today's cars. Benz, Escalade, 993, or whatever, I hate that look. The only thing worse than chrome/polished wheels are when they're up-sized! Yeah, those freakish diameters really make those now-diminutive rotors look great, don't they.

I had some chrome reverse wheels on a 39 chevy coupe I built circa 73. That car was so groovy with the faux fur headliner and **** carpet. The chrome reverse didn't work very well with the solid beam axle though. You had to be patient with the bump steer ... just let it go, it'll come back. Did I mention it was groovy?

I have a spare set of MY 2002 996 wheels I am...
thinking about selling. I just don't need 3 sets of 18" wheels. I paid $1,200 for them. They are straight and true. I'd be happy to get my $1,200 back. Buyer pays packing and freight..I can deliver to SoCal/CenCal or NorCal(Bay Area).
Note these are track wheels...not for the concours crowd!
