Default After 3 1/2 Years My VCT Floor Looks GREAT

I installed the floor (930 Sq Ft) in December of 2007. I just stripped it, wax it and put a high speed buffer on it. Love this floor.

My original post when installed.

Do you jack or lift on it? Looks great, and I love what's on TV in the corner!

I do jack and use jack stands. I usually put down some loose VCT pieces under the stands. Good eye on the TV.... It was a video tape from the History Channel on Porsche. Next was the "Are you Listening" tape.

Looks great .. how many cars does it hold? I have a 2 car garage and rent 2 10x20's at a nearby storage facility.

I had a professional contractor prep and install a resin-based coating on my concrete floor several years ago. I had areas of concrete that were in need of repair, I was tired of all the concrete dust, and it just did not look good. The end result was excellent and remains in good condition. It was about $2000 as I recall, and for me, well worth it (my wife at least was understanding, if not enthusiastic). I'd do it again.

Chuck, looks great! I'd love to have a floor like that, but with the winters we get around here it would be trashed by December.

Is is slippery when wet? (Only concern with the motorcycles and women and would hate to be the cause for my wife or one of her girlfriends pulling into the garage and laying a bike down into the 911)

I can get four cars in there.

Vinyl Composite Tile. It is the same stuff they use in most schools, buildings and stores. It is meant for indoors use and Armstrong advises against installing it in garages. The tires will turn the wax a brownish color where they sit. It cleans up, but is one of the drawbacks.

Yes. I have never had a problem with this as the floor is rarely wet. But, while cleaning it last week my wife took a good fall on the floor where I had mopped it and it was still wet.

I agree with Steve, these floors would not work in many areas.

An old photo with all four cars parked in it;

Chuck,

Hoe difficult/easy are the tiles to install? approx cost? and where did you get them?

I need to re-floor my garage and am looking for options. I was thinking of epoxying the whole thing.

The install is pretty easy. You put the glue down with a toothed trowel, let it sit for a short time and put the tile down. Then, you have to seal it, wax it three to six coats then buff it out with a high speed buffer. For the 930 sq ft I spent about a $1000. Everything was bought a Home Depot.

IMHO, the epoxy floor is a better choice if you want to install a floor and walk away from it. I love washing and waxing cars. I also love taking care of the floor. It has to be mopped regularly to keep it looking good and if you want the mirrored finish you need to put a high speed (2500 RPM) buffer on it on a regular basis. I got tired of dropping $50 every time I rented a buffer so I bought one on Craigslist.

That floor is gorgeous! Looks professionally installed. I'd love to do something like this in my next garage. A job well done!

I have the same floor in my garage but yours looks much nicer. What kind of wax do you use?
If anyone is interested in this floor it is very easy to install and they sell the tile at Lowes for about 80 cents/sq ft. Its pretty cost effective and looks great when clean although mine has never looked as good as
Chucks. You must have some great wax Chuck!
