Default oil change-jack car

I am uncertain if an oil filter change can be accomplished by using only the provided car jack at the point in front of the rear passenger wheel along with some safety backup, or if a floor jack and jack stands are needed as indicated in the p-car diy?

floor jack and jackstands.

I would not use the factory jack.

find a harbor freight and buy the aluminum jack and stands they sell. they are fine for occasional use for things like this and wont break the bank. change both filters!

Make sure you get a low profile jack. Costco has a nice jack for around $100.

Safety, safety, safety!!!

Make sure you have good jackstands and a good jack. If you are under the car, do NOT rely on just the jack stands, keep the floor jack slightly loaded supporting the car as well so if something happens, you have a secondary support.

For the money you save doing an oil change, you can invest in TWO jacks (I have four and the lift!) for double the safety and ease. :-)

Cheers,

Mike

FWIW I had a lift for my first change and it took me over 2 hours!! It will be a lot less next time though. Can't imagine doing it on my back.

As for safety, I take off the rear wheels and slip them under the car too, so in the worst case I get a broken nose...maybe.
