993 vs 997 owners' concerns
Stumbled upon this thread over on the 997 forum (no, I'm not looking for a 997....):
https://rennlist.com/forums/997-foru...y-porsche.html
Don't these guys have more important things to worry about, like RMS leaks and IMS bearing failures, rather than getting rust off their rotors.....
I know I'm poking fun at these guys, but let's see if folks here can come up with a list of things that troubles 993 owners. I'll start with a tricky one - how do you get the small oil filter out without spilling oil all over the place?

How do you keep people from not touching the car, or asking to go for rides and then ask to drive it . . .
How do I know the next cartaker will take good care of the car after I am gone. Wait, I'm still here and it's the 21st of May. Never-mind, going for a drive in the sunshine.

How much do you need to save each week to cover the eventual cost of replacing the valve guides? Or the seepage from the steering rack? Or the seepage from the chain covers?
I hate rusty looking rotors!

I think a good douse of oil after every drive will stop the rotors from rusting...

I,ve got 110000 miles on mine and the engine doesn,t burn a drop or leak enough to spot the floor. The car is probably fully depreciated and may be slowly going up in value. Big ticket repairs are not exclusive to the 993. Consider the cost of depreciation on a new 997 and see what it costs per mile even if under warranty.I don,t lose sleep over rusty rotors on a new or old car. I also don,t care if the car has been washed this year or not . Just drive it and enjoy it for what it is.

As to the list, I think Jack Criswell beat us to it:

Great little book by the way.

I sleep much better after selling the 997 Targa 4S. No more thought of cylinders blowing up or transmission failures. And of course the $15k a year depreciation future. So many computers unwilling to communicate with each other. The poorly designed Navigation/Radio system to boot.
Now I drive a nice air-cooled machine, and over time my investment may pay back handsomely, although I am not looking to sell. But if that nutty German guy makes a ridiculous offer, who knows

Actually '06+ 997's do not have ims bearing issues. 993's also leak at the rms from time to time. I think the 997 is just as reliable, and over time may prove even less troublesome than 993's with them being a more modern design.
