emotional crisis
So, my 993 is almot a year old now, and as much as I love the way it drives I'm becoming disenchanted with a couple other aspects of the car. The dash creaks and occasional rattles, and the ridiculous AC are kind of putting a damper on things for me. On a beautiful spring day, 60 degrees or so, with windows down and a cool breeze, I don't notice these things at all. But now as it's getting warmer, with windows up, both are a nuisance. I hate to be a party pooper here, but, but but....I just need more from the car if it's going to be anything more than just a novelty.

It's pathetic. My mechanic did a total flush and charge and God knows what a few days ago, but it still can't even keep up when it's 70 degrees and sunny.

Hmmm... think the A/C needs a better service. It's actually very good if running properly.
The windshield sqeaks are fixable, if requiring periodic maintenance and lube.
Good luck!

Porsche AC systems use odd pressures ... did he know what he was doing? It's also likely the condensor fan resistor is shot, which has a big impact on things.
The AC in my 993 can keep up with 100 degree temps in Austin, not as effortlessly as my BMW 740, but it's adequate as long as the car hasn't been baking in the sun.

I trust my mechanic. I know Albuquerque isn't necessarily a mecca for classic cars, but he's got a booming shop and is a Porsche certified mechanic from way back. Folks with Ferrari's in NM take their cars to him instead of carting them to Denver for warranty work.
Anyway, I e-mailed Mickey so I'll see what he has to say. I'm just feeling kind of dejected.

I dealt with Houston heat for years in my convertible, on those scorching summer 113 degree days where you dont dare to put the top down and the AC always performed like a champ. Imagine that... in a convertible... For sure you have an issue.

Agree with all the above comments about the A/C. Mine works fine in 100 degree heat.
Windshield creaks can be fixed, but do tend to come back over time...... As for the occasional rattles, this is a 15 year old stiffly sprung sports car, so you've got to have realistic expectations. Maybe what you need is a louder exhaust (or dare I say, better sound system ) and more WOT!

1. the a/c shouldn't be an issue in santa fe. fan resistor and evaporators are the weak links from what i understand. when i had my car recently at RAC two 993's were in there getting their evaporators replaced.
2. dash creaking is not necessary the windshield. i had a dash creek in my 993 and it was the strut mount that was shot. same issue in my rsa was a inner tie rod that was turned 90 degrees and caused a stress on the bushing that had popped out at one end. get your mechanic to sit in the car and demonstrated to him the creaking.
