Default CTEK Multi Us 3300 question

I've had this charger for several years.

It came with a set of quick release leads with eyelet terminals that can mount to the battery posts, as well as a set of traditional camp leads. The eyelet contacts were too small to fit the bolts on my battery clamps so I never installed them.

Now I would like to use the charger to maintain my Optima red top battery, which is why i bought the charger in the first place. Should I just replace the terminals with larger ones and connect them to the battery clamps? Or is there some other connection point that I am missing?

Thanks.

I'm not familiar with the Optimas but I bought a set of the CTEK cables with the larger connectors for my 993. I don't know why the charger came with the small ones. They might be good for a bike battery perhaps.

You can enlarge the holes of the eyelets with a reamer or drill bit...by hand. Do not use a drill because the bit will grab and twist your eyelet to shreds...they are made of soft material.

Or you can crimp larger eyelets onto the existing harness or order the harness with the large eyelets from your local CTEK dealer.

BTW, they are available in M6, M8 and M10 eyelet sizes.

I simply resized the eyelet holes on the harness that came with my CTEK...

It's not a bad idea to put a fuse on the + line near the battery too.

they sell a comfort connect version that has a quick disconnect as well. the great thing about this version is that it has an indicator on the end that tells you the health of the battery charge (green, yellow, red)...

here's an example:

"Health" is a misnomer, but it will tell you the OCV state of charge. CTEK is certainly coming out with nice accessories for just about every application.

YUASA has one called the Battery Analyzer (also a misnomer).

Its important to find out at which point it switches to Green. The YUASA unit does so at a low 12.5V. I'd want to be connecting my charger long before that which is why I prefer to use an on-board voltmeter instead.
