Yup same way.
Here is my dilemma. I have been thinking of upgrading to a Turbo, but for that amount of money that would cost, I can pickup a nice 550 replica, or a 356 replica, and have that car for real fun. Very tempting, although I might be tempted to throw a 3.6 993 engine into one....which I suspect will be more of a handful that I can handle.
Cheers,
Mike

Wow, a decent pic of the car is right here on a thread, go to post #20: https://rennlist.com/forums/showthre...ferrerid=21505
(So the car I'm remembering either was another one he did, or another guy's car that followed this roadster.)

x2 on the spyder kit. And spending $30K for a "knockoff" vs what @250-500K for a real one? why not!
Can't recall all the specs of the kit spyders, but they are what, 1600lb and the "base" motor is 130hp with up to 200hp available.
I also have issues about wanting a Caterham in my garage too..
Hal M... Why are we stuck on the "real porsche" thing?

Just takes bucks. Funny how Cris and I (and concurrently Cris and Rodney Chew, who I'd not yet met) would stand in the windblown, frigid College of Alameda parking lot after class talking what would become R Gruppe 20 years later. My interest quickly developed into competition, so even though I was an honorary charter member with a single digit "number" long ago I was booted from the rolls.
They're doing a meet in Monterey this weekend. The guy who bought my RSA is plugged in with them, and I could probably find out what's going on either through him or Cris if you wanted to go find what's going on.

Just stuck on the replica thing. I drool all over Sports Car Market magazine every month so I guess they have prejudiced me against fakey-do's.
Driving nice cars, you have to counter the "rich *******" syndrome a lot of people have. So it would be worse to be a poseur pretending to have an expensive car.
As mentioned, I have no problem with an Outlaw version, so I would rather start with an old 911 tub and strip it down and over engine it. I would actually like a 356 or early 911 Outlaw

I went through the same thing a few years ago. The replica aspect got me stuck. Then I wanted an NSX, then a 996TT, then a 996GT3, then a 997GT3, etc. as another fun car. The 550 is a beautiful car- real or not.

I'm kind of bored with Ruby, and burnt out on the smog thing. My 3.4, transaxle, suspension, brake system, etc would work really nice in a 550, or in my case, preferably a 904 kit. I'd get more bang for the buck than the loss I'd lock in by dumping Ruby in the teens.

I'd love a 550 Replica (NOT with a 3.6 though), just not sure my 6'3" 200 lb frame would fit in it.
I'd love a 356 Outlaw too. IIRC, Excellence did an article on a 356 Outlaw with a turbo motor in in about a year ago.
