Oh, I'm enjoying it every day - this is a daily driver cab. Oh, and it's snowing today in Boston.

+993. Great, easy upgrade. Just make sure you replace the plastic cups on each end while you're in there.

Sweet, glad to see so many like this mod. I got the golden rod and short shift kit in the mail a couple of weeks ago. Need to carve out some time to do the install in the next couple of days.

Paul, I'd like some more info on the cups you recommend replacing also.

I don't have the cup part # handy, but there's one on each end, and they're usually shot. It's a 928 part number. There was a thread about this recently...

Hey Brian-

Let's get together and go for a drive. You can drive my car; I have all Darin's popular upgrades- SSK, golden rod and Stage III's. Pure goodness...

No problem, Paul, we'll find it.

Suggestion to Darin and Mark: guys, you might want to supply the plastic cups as an option with Golden Rod for extra charge. Would make it easier as a package. For when I'm ready in a month or so

If you install the FDM SSK, you do not have to worry about the plastic cups. We eliminate this weak link by using stainless rod ends. This ensures a nice tight trouble/failure free front linkage.

Ron, you don;t need the cups with our SSK. We eliminate the ball/cup joint to improve shift feel and eliminate the possbility of being stranded due to a failed cup.

yes, there is a floppy rubber joint in the shift rod that we replace with a u-joint, ala Porsche RS shift rod.
The 993 is the first 911 to have this dampening in the shift rod.

By the way, I would love to take all of the credit for the SSK/Golden Rod but it is an FDM venture (Fister-DiPietro Motorsports) and was designed and built by me AND MarkD

Nick,

I'd be down for that. All I have is the stage IIIs, but you can hear them a little better in a cab. We should head over to Adam's on going engine re-building party. You can never have enough beer drinking supervisors on a project like that.

Darin, do you happen to know if plastic cups needed with your rod and Weltmeister's short shifter?

There are no plastic cups associated with the Golden Rod. The cups are used on the stock front linkage. I don't think the Westmeister kit uses them.

Here's a picture I posted on my thread about my FDM SSK and Golden Rod installation. It shows the difference between the original rod and the Golden Rod - this should answer your question in less than a thousand words... how about one - yes!
