Hollow Spoke or Not?
For the 993 Series were alll of the Turbo Twist wheels hollow spoke or were they only hollow on the Twin Turbo? I am a little confused on this as I know later the same design was certainly available in a solid spoke and are identical until you pick one up. Thanks.

The Holow spoke wheels are called "Technology" and were optional. The Solid spoke were called "Turbo Twist" and are far more common. You can tell the difference by looking at the back side.

993 C4S came with solid spoke as standard wheel. This link shows the part numbers and weights of solid vs hollow spoke rims, and a whole lot of other rims.

A hollow spoke wheel is ~35% lighter than a like solid spoke wheel (for one rear wheel this is about 6.5lbs), which is why they are more desirable from a performance perspective. Less rotational mass, same concept as getting a LWF.

From the factory TT & TTS were hollow spoke
C2S & C4S were solid spoke from factory
Hollows were an option on all the cars.
In the end, any car can have either, or even a mix of either (bent broken wheel) . It's best to check. Hollows have metal valve stems with the offsets around the valve stem. The hollows have a smooth back side.
The regular wheels have rubber valve stems, & have 2 groves on the back of the spokes.
Of course both types of wheels were made for NB & WB.

I have the sticker on my 97 C2 and it originally came with the 18" technology wheel option but original owner opted for 16" chrome Cup wheels for softer ride. I plan to replace as the budget allows with original wheels, MY02's, or 17" painted Cups. I'm just not a chrome guy.

My understanding was that the C2S came with 17" as standard and the hollow spoke technology wheels were the 18" option for those cars (and most US dealers ordered w/the optional 18's). So the C4S were standard with solid spoke and hollow was an option (as Stealth said), but the C2S were standard w/17 and hollow spoke as an option. So that would mean that most C2S's with twist wheels have the hollow technology wheels.
So I pose the question, does anyone have a C2S that came with solid spoke turbo-twists as a factory option? Not from a PO upgrade, but from factory?
I think that would determine if I'm under a mis-conception about the C2S.
Just curios... I hate to walk around with misinformation in my head.

Not sure this entirely accurate. I'm not saying I know it's not accurate, just saying that I've heard different.

The couple of C2S I have seen & looked at had the solid spoke wheels. I believe almost all US C2S were sold with solids, unless ordered with hollows.
In the end, who really knows? It seems every books on the subject has something slightly different. I think we should do a poll & see what happens.

Yea, they might, but my guess is almost no C2S came with 17in wheels, same for the regular 993's, ROW cars had 16in stock wheels, but I have yet to see any US 993 with 16in wheels on them.

Interesting distinction in terminology re "turbo twist" v. "technology." I've always referred to mine as twists although I guess I should call them technology - they're hollow spokes on a C2S. They were flawless when I got the car, but now they're in need of refinishing after almost 40K miles of me thrashing around in them.
