I just purchased my first 993 C2 last Sat. The (non-Porsche) dealer only gave me one key for the car and said the previous owner was looking for the other 2, but was not hopeful in getting them. Is my only recourse going to a Porsche dealer to get 2 new spare keys and 2 electronic fobs that unlock the car? I'm sure this is not inexpensive. Does anyone know how much? Do I have other options?
Thanks in advance... I love this car!

At least one fob should have been included in the sale or the price reduced to reflect the missing fob. The car is designed to be locked/unlocked by using the fob. IIRC, there is only one key for the car, not three. Any additional key(s) would be a spare.

Go to Sunset for the key fobs, and they can have Porsche pre-cut a key given a VIN is you want. This might be advisable if the key you have been given is worn.

Mike,
I'm not familiar with, "Sunset". Is that a dealer, (I'm in the Wash. DC area) or is it a website/parts supplier...
I just called my local P-Car dealer and they want $400 for the switchblade type key or $350 for the non-switchblade key...!

^They are a dealer in Beaverton Oregon that caters to the mail order enthusiast. Their parts prices are significantly discounted compared to most other dealers.

Welcome to the best place in the the world for a 993 owner. Photos of your car are required. What part of DC are you from? I'm from Potomac.
DO NOT go to any DC area dealer for your parts. At Sunset, it's 15% over cost and no tax. Great place for a key transmitter: http://www.sunsetimports.com/parts/ With a '96, I'm not sure how you even start your car without a transmitter to turn off the Immobilizer. As far as the actual keys go, I got some Italian-made 914 blanks from ebay (2 for $7, very upscale) and had them cut at a good locksmith. They tried to cut one from the code, but we wound up using the baby "emergency" key for an analog cut. That works fine.
There's a whole procedure posted here somewhere for programming the transmitter. It's kind of a bitch, so leave plenty of time. You'll want a beer after.

Chuck,
Thanks for the tip... I'll go the Sunset route... After I've got the keys/fob in my mitts I'm gonna have to steel myself for the programming nightmare, (or so I'm led to believe...)
BTW, I'm originally from NYC and now live in McLean, VA. I'll be joining Rennlist as a full member and posting pics of my ride shortly.
