Here are the links to the shifter and the E-brake DIY. The shifter DIY is excellent by Gerts. It has neat pictures on how to do it, it worked well for me, and again I did not remove the console. The hardest part is when you get to the last corner that you have to snap. Keeping the rest of the boot engaged on the clips while you do the last corner is tricky. Just follow Gerts’ instructions. Grab the boot inside, see picture, with your left hand and pull up until it engages the clip. With your right hand keep the rest of the boot engaged on the clip. It is just a matter of patience. Here is my DIY.
I will be bleeding the brakes but not know. I am getting everything I need to change the oil and then do the brakes at the same time. I have not decided yet on the brake fluid. I am leaning for the Endless 650 although I do not do tracks. This weekend I am working on my motorcycle.

Also, love the bike! I'm spending the weekend in Missississippi with a couple of college friends. One is an antique bike collector. His collection is alomost all Brishih bikes (he has 13 in the collection). His favorites are an Ariel 4 and a Vincent. I showed him the picture of your Avante and he had never seen one.
You have to call Gert and he will get it for you if available. When I called him he, I believe, got it from the factory in Germany. He is a very nice person and super fast. He can get what no one else can. Give him a call, he will get back to you real quick. He could not get the matching steering wheel for me as it is not available; However a fellow Rennlister from Hong Kong had one and sold it to me. I have not insatlled it yet, it is one of my DIY in the que.
Regarding the motorcycle the reason he probably has not seen one is because mine is the only one in the USA and there are only about twenty firve in the world. It is a super collectors item, in Germany they maim for it. This was my other dream toy besides the 993. I bought it in junk parts from a Swedish collector three years ago. It took 1 1/2 year to receive it from Sweden and 1 1/2 year to restore it. I get thumbs up from a lot of people when I drive the 993 and the Avanti.
Had to remove the shifter boot today. Instead of using a screwdriver covered with a towel I used a bicycle tire lever…you can get ones the are fairly wide at the bottom and it makes getting the driver side of the boot off very easy. You can also use it to pull the other side of the boot off as well, just push the driver's side down and you have room to get lever in and pry up.
Yes, I did find a cashmere boot and a shifter. I also was able to find a short shift kit that will move the shifter up and slightly to the rear to fit my body better than the current setup.
I'm looking for a cashmere boot and new shifter. Where did you find one?
Giving this thread from Ernie a bump. Took less than ten minutes including detailing to remove my old worn shifter and install this new one. Not only was the shifter worn on the outside, the rubber on the inside was breaking down and loose. The new shifter not only looks better, it also feels less vague when shifting gears. This is really an easy upgrade for your 993.

Use your bare hands to push down on the driver side about 1" from the corners and the boot will push right down past the tension clips.
Pull the old shifter off being careful not to punch yourself in the head. Note the wear line on the shifter and make sure the new shifter extends all the way down to that line
Drop the glove back in one corner at a time like a window screen, press right side up into the groove and then gently pull the left side of the boot up until it secures against the fasteners. Too easy.
Donster, I went with a Function First Performance shifter. I attached a picture. If you are looking for an original shifter and boot I have one I would consider selling. PM me if you want to see photos.
Wow, I paid just $200 on CL for the shifter and brake combined, both removed early in the car's life in like new condition. I don't even need the brake.
