That was what Porsche Factory driver Patrick Long said, and talked about the new car at some length, why, and how it related to the GT cars. The old car is quite a bit narrower than what they consider their main rival Ferrari, and thought they needed that edge.
Fuel economy usually goes by class, the 991 is not in a new class of car, It is still a sub compact, then by weight, the new 991 is lighter. Furthermore it is figured the aggragate average of all there cars, so changing on model isn't large effect on there X number.
