Class Action Law Suite 993 Door Check-Strap weld breaking
Do we have any lawyers here?
Apparently Porsche is nicer to their German buyers. There was a recall in Germany on this issue and Porsche did mostly this outlined repair where the back was made stronger and a second weld was added.

I think at this point all it would take for Porsche NA to pay for this is some legal nudging to have them pay for this in the US.
Any lawyers here, I'd pitch in $500 into the legal fund.
If you already paid for this repair you would get refunded by Porsche if this effort is successful.
I'm not a lawyer but will coordinate this effort if needed.
Not sure if you can pledge funds with paypal that only get charged if we move forward.
Please post here if you would like to support this cause or if you are a lawyer who can take this on.
Thank you.

I'm no lawyer either but I think that after 13+ years, the "statute of limitations" has run out. Correct me if I'm wrong but most auto manufacturers have no legal requirement to even supply parts for vehicles over 10 years old. Fortunately, Porsche does.

Never going to happen, to small of a group with the problem. It doesn't affect every car, & it's not really a "safety" issue. It's more of a "train people how to open the door properly" issue.
The only people who make money on a class action suite is the lawyers working on the case.
If anything on the 993 is a faulty, it's the dam light bulb on the OBC computer. That's a 100% failure thing, that cost $500 for N Hollywood Speedo to fix.

That has been an on going Porsche problem going back before the 993/964.
$2000 are you insane?
It depends on how bad you door is. It's one thing to just break the strap or mount it's another to break the strap and swing the door out far enough to kink it over, which happens.
I have a broken driver's side door, and I picked up a spare door in good condition. the reinforcement parts are about $100 + labor. I am not quite sure what to do about, since the door I got is black and my car is Guards Red; however my door looks pretty bad in the jam and has been fixed once already.

One of the disappointments on my 993tt is one of the POs did the cheap weld job fix. It looks just OK. I would have paid the extra money to do it right. Oh well. And as far as a lawsuit against Porsche regarding this issue.... save your time and money. I enjoy battles... but I pick the ones I stand a chance on winning.

You are going to go after Porsche for this?? How about we use the legal system for important issues (like cigarette manufacturers, shady Investment Brokers, etc....)? I also have to believe that most 2nd, 3rd, etc.. owners of 993"s either know about the issue prior to purchase if they have done any level of research. It just seems reasonable to expect someone who purchases a sports car, that they would do some level of research and are making an informed decision. Just my 2 cents.

It's not that Porsche is nicer to its German customers (eh, CLIENTS). It's that German law is nicer to its individual citizens (mostly).
We're most likely outside the statute of limitations unless someone can show that they should have done something a few years ago, but didn't, and it's because of Porsche's actions that we didn't know to ask.
That and it'll cost WAAAAAAY more than $500 a person to get anywhere with it.

I've had this issue on 2 of my 993's and it's a standard issue to be aware of.
Highly doubt I'll ever see a penny back on the cost to remedy, but along with a number of other things that are wear items, this is just part of owning a 993.
