Is this price is for a "real" repair from inside the door jamb or the "butcher job" external weld repair I have seen on about one out of four 993s?

I'd like to know who does the "real" repair for $350. I'll have four 993s there next week.

I went to a Porsche approved body shop and got a quote of $1,500/ door. This quote was an ESTIMATE ONLY and it "could end up being more". Which I know means: It will cost more.

Could you please post a picture of the $350 repair you quoted?

I did the pcar.com fix before it became a problem. Cost about $5. However, I would join a class action to get Porsche to own up to the SAI issue.

This must be a joke. Nobody can seriously want to take Porsche to court for a broken door-strap on a 13 to 18 year-old car. With age, mechanical things wear and eventually break.

You already have one of the best engineered and built cars on the planet, so why not accept that running an older car has a cost, rather than trying to pass the bill to Porsche?

For good measure, it is "suit" not "suite". Unless we all got you wrong, and you wanted to offer Porsche a hotel room.

$2000 are you insane?

It depends on how bad you door is. It's one thing to just break the strap or mount it's another to break the strap and swing the door out far enough to kink it over, which happens.

I have a broken driver's side door, and I picked up a spare door in good condition. the reinforcement parts are about $100 + labor. I am not quite sure what to do about, since the door I got is black and my car is Guards Red; however my door looks pretty bad in the jam and has been fixed once already.
The door has never been the weak point. Its the mounting point in the door jamb. You may have another problem altogether.

I have never seen the check strap problem on a 964 or earlier cars. It is a 993 problem.

$2000-$4000 to do a check strap fix on two doors sounds just a tad high.

You might as well stand in line with 996 owners with engines that bit the dust!

I do object to the "butcher" job comment - I have external welds on both my door jambs. The welds were ground smooth and repainted, looks very good, and has held solid for the last 7 years. I do not think the solution that requires you to cut into the door posts to do the work is actually the best one - too much breaking of factory seals of the fenders, and then cutting into pillars....

Cheers,

Mike.

No - it is a common 964 problem too.

No Judge and/or Jury is going to ever feel sorry for a Porsche owner, and award damages for something like this (or even IMS, or slipped sleeves, or SAI issues) in a Class Action.

What SAI issue?

Sorry, I meant...

More likely you'd see a class action suit against Porsche for the lack of power issue on the 95's since they were cheated out of Varioram.

Then again...you probably made a clock out of your SAI pump. So, No class action suit check for you!

CLASS ACTION SUITE?

Isn't that the room Charlie Sheen rented in NYC for his last action romp? Might have been an action suite...but I don't think there was too much class involved.

I'll be happy to take your car off your hands, but with that check door strap problem I want a $3K to $4K credit.
