I have a 1997 C4S with no modifications (yes, I can see that this may not last too long...). I would like to try to keep it that way - if possible. I need new shocks. I have done some research on this forum and I see that I could move to the M030 set-up with Billsteins.
Alternatively, do folks have any suggestion for which shocks to buy if i did not want to change the springs? I am using this car for road use only and would prefer to avoid a harsh/stiff ride......Help.......thanks

Go with the M033's if you want it to be a little more supple.
What's the difference between the M033 and the M030 springs?
The M030 is a sport sport suspension. The M030 springs will make the ride lower and sportier while the M033 springs will lower the car but it will remain comfortable like the stock suspension.
The M030 are compliant and I think the suspension should be one of the first things to modify on the 993. Makes a HUGE difference and it's all good...

I just put M033 springs and Koni FSD shocks over the weekend. I love the ride quality and the lower stance of the car. My album has been updated with before and after pics on the ride height. Koni is having a sale right now. You can get this setup through Gert at carnewal.com or Jason at Paragon Parts. Both have many customers on rennlist. I stayed away from Bilsteins based on several comments regarding harshness.

I had Koni FSDs from Paragon installed last spring on my 96 C4 with 42K miles, but kept the factory springs. Handling improved and the ride feels tight and controlled yet not too hard, definitely better than the 14 year old factory shocks. I elected not to lower the car because I commute on the bombed out roads here in Montgomery County just outside Philly, and I do not track the car.

I'm really pleased with My Koni FSD shocks. I think they're perfect for someone like me who doesn't get to the track very often, but still loves to drive the car with verve.

You can get the M030 kit for under $1500 for shocks & springs. The M033 kit was sale, but is no longer, & is still priced under the M030 kit.
I think M030 or M033 springs with the Koni FSD shocks might be the best way to go. That being said the factory M030 kit rides just fine, & is not harsh at all.

Just a data point - I dumped my Bilstein HDs/M030 setup for KW V3s. The KWs are double adjustable (unlike Bilstein PSS9 and PSS10). You can get them from FD Motorsports.
I love my KWs.
Cheers,
Joe
